        • Prepping an RV for Winter Storage

http://www.storage.com - As winter quickly approaches, many campers and roadtrippers around the country will be closing up their RVs and campers until Spring. When storing your RV for Winter, it's important that you take a few steps to protect it from damage – especially if you'll be storing the RV outdoors where it will be exposed to the elements. Featured in this video is a 30 ft. 2014 Cherokee Cascade 25BHC made by Forest River, Inc. Video Transcription: No matter how much you love RVing, it’s not a lifestyle that many can live year-round. So when it’s time to close up the camper for winter, it’s important to prepare it for storage in order to protect it from damage. Here are a few basic steps to take no matter where you’re storing your RV: – Drain all wastewater from your black- and gray-water tanks, and be sure to do so at a designated sanitation site. – Drain all freshwater tanks as well, and run antifreeze through the entire system – especially if you’re in a climate where pipes could freeze or burst. – Disconnect your battery and propane tanks, and bring them home with you to store indoors. Keep the battery on a trickle charger for the off-season. – Clear the fridge and cabinets of all perishables that could attract pests, and leave the fridge slightly ajar to prevent mold and mildew. Outdoor RV storage is the most common storage option, but because of the RV’s exposure to the elements, you’ll need to take a few extra steps to protect it from damage: – Give the exterior a thorough cleaning, and apply a coat of protective wax to prevent rust, or delamination of the fiberglass body. – Once the RV is settled at the storage site, lower the jack slightly so that any rainwater or snow can drain off of the roof. – Remove any valuables from the interior, and firmly shut and lock all windows and doors. By taking the time to prep your RV for winter storage, you can get back on the road as soon as possible when spring arrives.

Back in the 1970s, it seemed like anything was possible. For Winnebago, that meant manufacturing flying motorhomes, or heli-homes as they were called. In this video RVtravel.com's Chris Dougherty looks back at the flying RVs — a futuristic idea for Winnebago that unfortunately never took hold.
