(This is just the trailer for the 80s Cut. Follow the link below if you want to see where I really put the work. The music was used without permission, but I'm not using this for financial gain at all. This is just a fun project I wanted to do.) Hey all! I'll look into making a smaller version ASAP. I'll shoot for a 1-3 gig version. In fact, it's a pretty good movie. I've admired Neill Blomkamp's work even before District 9 when he was doing short films, like Alive in Joburg. He has a great style and he's a wonderful director. That said, I feel he has taken a few missteps when creating this film. To me, Elysium is a film that's stuck out of its time. If this were produced in the 1980s, where films with very heavy handed messages like Robocop and Escape from New York were coming out, I think Elysium could have been considered a classic ahead of its time. So, with that in mind, I set out to create a cut of the film that reflected a style forgotten in the age of 4K resolution and high quality sound. This is the 80s VHS Cut of Elysium. I didn't cut this to 4:3 for a few reasons. One, is that Elysium was shot for wide screen, and while it may make sense that the VHS version would be 4:3, when I tried it I lost a lot of what's going on the screen. Blomkamp has a great visual style, and while I did add a VHS filter via Red Giant Universe, I don't feel like cutting it to 4:3 adds anything to the VHS experience. Actually, it takes away from it seeing as how you're missing what's happening on screen. For this cut, I have edited the video, audio, cut down on some needless footage, and added my own soundtrack. The soundtrack is listed below, and the VHS effect were provided by the wonderful effects package of Red Giant Universe. I edited the video and sound in Adobe Premiere 5.5 and Adobe Audition 5.5. Most of the story changes are Jodie Foster related. I decided to keep this cut very centered on the character of Max, and left the space station Elysium a sort of mystery to the people stuck on Earth... I also cut the flashback sequences into one montage in the beginning, because I feel like they were too distracting. The trailer was something I cut together really to advertise the VHS Cut, so don't really judge the film on that. Yeah, my voice sucks, and it's a little cheesy, but I based the VO on film trailers like Terminator and such... The soundtrack list as as follows: Makeup And Vanity Set - System Override Electric Youth - Runaway Futurecop! - Bright Lights, Big City Makeup And Vanity Set - Val S U R V I V E - Hourglass John Carpenter - Night College - Frontiere Carpenter Brut - Wake up the President Perturbater - Humans Are Such Easy Prey Makeup And Vanity Set - Collapse Makeup And Vanity Set - Don't Wait for Me Teeel - Crystal Lake - Original Mix Makeup And Vanity Set - Omni Lost Years - Exit Music Makeup And Vanity Set - Things to Come S U R V I V E - Black Mollies Le Matos - King's Filth Magic Sword - Infinite Pertubator - War Against Machines Le Matos feat. Electric Youth - Light Again Please enjoy and let me know what you think in the comments!
