In the early 11th century, the Liv tribes arrived on the lower reaches of the River Gauja. 200 years later the Livs received Christianity but lost their lands. The right bank of the Gauja came under the rule of the Church, but the left bank, under the rule of the knights. In 1207 the knights started to build the Sigulda castle. A few years later, Bishop Albert built a no less imposing castle on the other side of the Gauja. The only traces of the Livs remained in the name of the castle, Turaida. History, nature and culture, are the three magnets that draw thousands of people to Turaida and Sigulda every year. Directed by Oskars Morozs, camera Valdis Celmins, text Valdis Abols, producer Uldis Cekulis, VFS FILMS
