http://marshmallowlaserfeast.com http://analogstudio.co.uk http://fbfx.co.uk http://duologuemusic.co.uk BTS PHOTOS: http://bit.ly/MEMEX-BTS-Photos A 3D study of mortality exploring new photographic processes, in this case photogrammetry. In collaboration with Analog, FBFX and the band Duologue, this project is the beginning of a deeper study into filmmaking for the virtual reality environment. We worked with FBFX and their amazing 94-camera high resolution scanning rig, to create a full body scan of model Beryl Nesbitt. The scans then went to MLF’s long-term VFX collaborators Analog where they snatched a magical moment of the sunset through a window (the Analog Studio toilet), as a spherical panoramic HDR photo. These 2 photographic processes combined in 3D software where the toilet sunset illuminated Berlys Photo scanned form. We wanted to go beyond the limits of the audience’s eyeballs - using 3D to reveal different perspectives on the human form. After Analog received the high res models from FBFX they started to build realistic shaders for the skin. Obviously the eyes are extremely important in making a 3d person look realistic so Analog built their own layered eyes and tear ducts. Another thing they added was subtle hairs on the body. Since beryl is "returning to dust" analog also had to sculpt alternative versions where she was covered in an ash like material. Extra to the main model they also created all the additional pieces for the video like cloth and the rose. Once we had decided on camera moves and light positions every scene was lit, rendered & comped in house at Analog. Taking this level of detail to realtime VR environments is our next challenge.

Marshmallow Laser Feast designed an interactive course made entirely out of light for this insane commercial with our friends at the Brooklyn Brothers and Logan. Four of the world’s top drivers - Ken Block, Marc Basseng, Adrian Zaugg and Augusto Farfus pushed their skills and their nerves to the limit guided through the darkness by our minimalistic kinetic lighting design. The adrenal rush of a race into the unknown created an atmosphere of vast, bold aesthetics, the likes of which have never been seen before. Fruity! Commissioned by and premiered at the STRP Biennale in Eindhoven, Netherlands, this giant interactive forest covers 450 square meters and comprises more than 150 musical “trees” made of rods and lasers. The audience can freely explore the space, physically tapping, shaking, plucking, and vibrating the trees to trigger sounds and lasers. Due to the natural springiness of the material, interacting with the trees causes them to swing and oscillate, creating vibrating patterns of light and sound. Each tree is tuned to a specific tone, creating harmonious sounds spatialized and played through a powerful surround sound setup. The installation is designed to bring out child-like feelings of curiosity and wonder in the audience as they learn how to interact and play within the space.

Tags are keywords that describe videos. For example, a video of your Hawaiian vacation might be tagged with "Hawaii," "beach," "surfing," and "sunburn."
