In the Post-Sandy world, I –like many or seacoast urban dwellers– are thinking about how one relates to our land and cityscapes; those that are familiar to us as well as those that are upended and re-arranged from severe weather. Referencing my painterly sensibility, I have been affected by the chaotic nature of what storms do and have found my vision affected by the scattered debris and destruction found in various New York City coastal environments (Midland Beach, St. George, and the Rockaways). As ideas on sustainability and cultural intervention abound, I've thought about the body’s relationship to varying types of shelter structures born of storm debris- as well as the transportation issues that arise when people are forced to travel long distances due to structural damage.
