Over the last 10 years, pianist and composer Aaron Diehl has made some important waves on the jazz scene both here and abroad. In addition to becoming one of the most important pianists of his generation, Aaron's voice on the keys brings back the freshness of classical sensabillities with the edge of jazz and blues, a key element to American roots music. In his Mack Avenue Records debut, "The Bespoke Man's Narrative," he dives into the jazz mode paying homage to Duke Ellington and Cole Porter and introducing his swinging quartet which features David Wong on bass, Warren Wolf on vibes, and Rodney Green on the drums. The Columbus, Ohio native recieved his training in classical at an early age but it was the black Catholic Church where Aaron quickly gained his chops as a pianist and organist. It was the church were he developed his sight reading skills. As a teen, Aaron was mentored by the great Todd Stoll who was then the Director of the Columbus Youth Orchestra. He later studied and pursued his career as a pianist while attending the Juilliard School of Music in New York City. While as a student he joined Trumpeter Wynton Marsalis's Septet and later became the 1st place winer of the Cole Porter Fellowship in the jazz competition of the American Pianists Association. Currently Aaron is about to tour extensively in support of his debut CD "The Bespoke Man's Narrative."
