        • The Italian Key

          from Tuomas Kantelinen Added 522 0 0

A romantic feel-good fairytale (shot entirely on location in Italy, India and the UK) about a 19-year-old orphan who gets, as her sole inheritance, a rusty key that opens an old villa in Italy. When she settles into her new life, she starts making friends in the village and discovering answers to the mysteries of her family history. The Italian Key aims to be unashamedly beautiful, romantic, naive and innocent, and deliver a thoroughly happy ending. It may be the best fit for people who believe in and love the good things in life, who are not very cynical or pessimistic. It takes a village, as they say - the film was shot mostly in the small village of Cabella Ligure at the border of Piemonte and Liguria. The village is one of the main centers of Sahaja Yoga meditation and while the story has nothing to do with meditation or yoga, it reflects some of the ideals of a more simple life and includes some spiritual thoughts - but it can very well be watched as just lighthearted, romantic entertainment as well! We hope you like it - and do send your reviews and comments to us at: rosa@theitaliankey.com. They will go directly to writer-director Rosa Karo. Sound on Sight says: "The Italian Key is the feature debut for Finnish writer/director, Rosa Karo. In her film, she explores a fairytale-esque scenario of a 19-year-old orphaned girl named Cabella and her adventures in Italy. Karo’s primary goal in the feature was to bring about sensations of happiness, joy and fulfillment without the use of sex, drugs or violence – or any action for that matter. The film’s largest conflict is waylaid in moments and the film resumes it’s peaceful trotting pace towards the end. What could be confused as a boring, melodious feature, The Italian Key, manages to touch upon emotions of belonging, curiosity, and love. The film’s score by Tuomas Kantelinen is masterfully executed to match the majestic landscape of Italy and the deeply rooted emotions of the feature. The stunning visuals of the Italian landscape and a surprise subplot in India really carry this feature. One can’t help but feel pulled into the textures and quiet moments of the film." http://www.soundonsight.org/the-italian-key-the-italian-key%E2%80%99-explores-feel-good-cinema/
