Terence P. Barry Senior Scientist Department of Animal Sciences University of Wisconsin-Madison Dr. Barry discusses his research measuring the effects of the steroids used in cattle ranching on fish. Fathead minnows are used to study hormone's impact on the growth and reproduction of the fish. To date, the data suggests that the fish are metabolizing the hormone quickly without any negative effects.

Spokane Falls Chapter of Trout Unlimited teamed with the Spokane County Conservation District and Eastern Washington University and Spokane Community College student Volunteers to plant 4000 willows on Hangman Creek in Eastern Washington for habitat restoration and erosion control. The past farming practices denuded the riparian area and in some places the stream channel was straightened by the Army Corps of Engineers from a bygone era. The result was loss of fish habitat, erosion, silting and agricultural pollution down stream. Summer algae blooms and dead zones have been attributed to some of the run off from this creek. This planting took place on the weekend of Earth Day
