On Nov. 30, 2010, the congregation at St. Andrew's celebrated the completion of the renovation of their worship space with a service of rededication and Evensong. The Rt. Rev. Terry Allen White, bishop of the Diocese of Kentucky, presided over the service, during which he gave a sermon, marking this day "not so much the culmination of anything" but "the beginning of the next adventure in the story of this community" and its rededication to loving God and neighbor. "We build such places as this to remind us, enable us, inspire us to worship God alone, to live dependent on God on alone that we might serve God above all else," the bishop said. "It is the call of Advent: to prepare spiritually for that day when we stand face to face before the Son of God that we might seek and serve Christ in all people, and Andrew, Advent’s first saint, calls us to follow the One, who came not to be served but to serve. So we so we build and care and adorn and such holy places as this in order to celebrate new beginnings, new commitments to God and neighbor, to embark on new adventure. So beloved in Christ, tonight is not so much the culmination of anything. It is the beginning of the next adventure in the story of this community. In years to come let this rededication be seen as a consecration, the setting apart of a people rededicated to loving God and neighbor. A mission field surrounds this place. Or perhaps more appropriately to the first vocation of St. Andrew, lapping up against your walls are proverbial waters teeming with hungry souls seeking God’s love, forgiveness, wholeness and purpose for life. Our neighbors are just like us. Craving the call on the name of the lord in order to be saved from self-centered lives, hardness of heart and apathy…. My beloved, a new adventure is calling.”

          • Rivers

            01:07:33

            from Lou Armitt / Added

Rivers is a film about music, faith and the possibility of shared religious truth. Focusing on its extraordinary concert premiere by a youth choir and a virtual choir it portrays the diverse practices from followers of many world religions. Rivers is a powerful, mesmeric exploration of our spiritual inter-connection. Created by composer Richard Leigh & filmmaker Lou Armitt, Rivers was given its concert premiere at St Johns Smith Square Westminster in September 2013. It marked the centenary of historic visits made by Abdu'l-Baha to the UK and St John's itself, between 1911 & 1913, after having endured 40 years of imprisonment in Palestine for His beliefs in the oneness of human-kind and the spiritual unity of all religion. The concert featured the award winning Northamptonshire County Youth Choir, The Gathering Sound virtual choir and an ensemble of Shamanic gongs, percussion, harp, strings and piano. Throughout the film concert footage is interspersed with abstracted images of water and diverse images of worship. It captures the hypnotic, repetitive state of prayer and the unifying movements of the many faith traditions. Each faith is represented individually, and as the work unfolds, more and more elaborate choral tapestries are created as the faiths are inter-woven, culminating with a virtual choir at its climax. Participants of every ability and background were invited to join the Gathering Sound Virtual Choir via the internet, by downloading the music score and instructional video, and then uploading their respective vocal line via youtube. Scripture from 8 Religious traditions - Hindu, Jewish, Zoroastrian, Buddhist, Christian, Islamic, Babi & Baha'i Faith; poetry by Christina Rossetti, Frederick Tennyson, George Townsend and the writings of Abdu'l-Baha.
