I reused some footage from a shoot I did for a luxury apartment company in NYC called Related.com. The empty apartment stuff and the sounds of NYC reminded me of a very lonely place. I think it is in these places sometimes that we think on our mortality. DIRECTOR/DP/EDITOR: Cory Pampalone YEAR: 2007 SONG: The Rachels - "Last Things Last"

      • The Full Meaning of the Cross

        04:30

from Alan V. Pearson, CFRE / Added

Christ's physical suffering and death on the cross are common sermon topics. However, the "Cup of Wrath" poured out on Him on the cross is rarely talked about. In the very garden where this message was delivered, the night before his death, Christ prayed three times for “the Cup” to be removed from Him. The "Cup" He spoke of was not the physical torture that awaited Him (a common misinterpretation). Yes, the torture He endured at the hands of men was part of God’s redemptive plan. But God's divine justice could not be satisfied by enduring the torture of men; crosses, nails, thorns, and spears are not nearly enough to pay for sin. Christ’s foreknowledge of the "Cup of Wrath," which was soon to be poured out on Him, is behind His cry for deliverance. Despite His prayers, Christ's will gave into that of His Father and He willingly drank the bitter cup of God’s wrath on the cross so His people would be spared this judgment. He bore our transgressions on the cross and paid the divine penalty for our sins - He was forsaken by God (“Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?”) and then crushed under the holy wrath of God in our place. The importance of this cannot be understated and should be a part of every Gospel presentation. The believer is not saved by what men did to Christ on the Cross; the believer is saved because of what God did to Him - He crushed Him under the full weight of His wrath against us. And Isaiah 53:10 (KJV) says it pleased God to do so – that’s how much God hates sin! This is the Full Meaning of the Cross - and we have not fully proclaimed the saving power of the cross if we do not also explain this truth. Sadly, this truth is rarely mentioned in much of the modern Gospel preaching we see today. Hopefully this brief devotional message will lead you to desire a fuller study of the "Cup of Wrath" (Psalm 75:8; Jeremiah 25:15-16),” Isaiah 53:10, and a deeper understanding of the Full Meaning of the Cross. It was delivered in the Garden of Gethsemane, Israel, May 6, 2011. Raw footage, unedited. Edited version coming soon. Many thanks to Paul Washer who opened my eyes to the full meaning of the cross, the "Cup" and Isaiah 53:10. I've listened to the "Full Meaning of the Cross" three times since hearing it for the first time while I stood beside you in the Garden of Gethsemane. In just 4 1/2 minutes you encouraged me with insight into God's word, your passion for full meaning of the cross and encouraged me to be more grateful for the cup Christ drank for me. The focus on the explanation of the cup spoke to me. When I first heard you say, "We are not saved from sin but from God and His judgment” I remember thinking that’s right! We are not saved from sin, because I am still a sinner and sometimes that is discouraging, but we are saved from God's wrath and judgment and I need to be reminded of that. For me, that was a comforting thought and that spoke to me. Everyone should hear the “Full Meaning of the Cross." – Roger Stone, Fort Lauderdale, FL I have heard, read, and know the Passion story of our Lord Jesus Christ. Somehow the details of this particular passage however, regarding the plea that Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, have never touched these eager ears. Honestly, I am a little embarrassed as a Christian; I never realized the truth associated with that passage. Yet, it's so clear - now that it's been presented rightly here in “The Full Meaning of the Cross.” I had always believed it was an appropriate interpretation of Scripture - that the man side of Jesus was truly dreading the physical suffering that was to come. That, even though He was God in the flesh and knew this was His Father's Will to punish sin for all time; that somehow He was saying "if there could be any other way Father, please!" Now it's so obvious Jesus would never ask that because it was their plan (Father/Son/Holy Spirit) since the beginning of time! Jesus also said "no one takes my life from me, I give it freely". The phrase you said "He drank our Hell for us" was probably the most sobering for me. What a beautiful evangelistic tool this powerful, brief explanation gives. I know I will be sharing and using what I've just been enlightened to, in my own evangelism opportunities from here on out. – Judy Smith, Murrieta CA

So often we get caught up with life and we forget to be concerned about what really matters. Many people are living and dying each day without Christ. Christ came to save the lost. He came that man could be connected again to God both now and in eternity. If we really believe this, then why are we not sharing with our loved ones? If this is true, then we need to be telling people... We often hear the message of “God loves you” (and it’s true that God does love us) but we’re not really facing the issue that until we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we're separated from God because of our sins. I hope this video doesn’t come across as “fear mongering”. That wasn’t the intension. I just find that many believers, like myself, aren’t always thinking about what’s really important. The bible says that the gospel of Christ is “The Good News”… Are we sharing this “Good News” to those we say we love? What about those who we don’t love?
