In late fall, we traveled to the high elevations of the San Juan mountains to explore the vast range and to test out our prototype suspension platform. Our trip took us to the southwest part of Colorado because the San Juan's contain some of the most rugged terrain in Colorado and offer a loose network of trails — some fully developed, others just old mining paths filtering down the mountainside. Fall in the Rockies is always epic, but the weather is variable. We encountered freezing temps and snow, but were rewarded with fresh loam and peak colors. In the end, after the trails were explored, weather was endured, flat tires were fixed, and a few beers were drunk, we found out what works and what doesn’t. Excursions like this are part of the feedback loop necessary to fully develop our suspension designs. Proven Here. San Juans x SB5 Carbon. http://www.neilprovo.com/ The last 2 weeks in Silverton have been a blast. Zack Giffin, Molly Baker and I have been on the search for pow and also new grassroots athletes for Outdoor Research. December 27th local and good friend Matty G took us for a tour up Sultan Mountain. Topping out at 13368 ft, it was my highest hike to date! We rode the Northstar couloir off the summit, then enjoyed 4000 ft of glorious pow down to the little town below. The San Juan mountains blow me away! Look forward to coming back for more exploring.

This footage was shot during the summer of 2011 in the Colorado mountains. The majority of the locations were above timberline, at elevations ranging from 12,000 to over 14,000 feet. Most of the shots were in the San Juan Mountains, but there are several shots from the Collegiate Peaks and Sawatch/Mosquito ranges. Technical details: Canon 5D MKII, various lenses. The night shots were exposures of 15-30 seconds at ISO 1600-3200, depending on moon phase. Little Bramper and 3 stop ND filter were used for controlling exposure during dusk and dawn transitions. All shots are straight from the camera - no CGI or compositing was used in the editing of this footage. Music is Jessica by the Allman Brothers Band. Members of the San Juan Airheads crave vast, open snow fields and powerful winds. On a Sunday afternoon, George Brewster, Matt Hepp and Parker McAbery found what they were looking for near the top of a peak in southwestern Colorado. This short video teases the mini-documentary film that I will finish next winter. Music, "The Circus Sets Up", from the Water for Elephants soundtrack, courtesy James Newton Howard. For 133 days and nearly 2,800 miles I backpacked along the backbone of America, also known as the Continental Divide. It's a National Scenic Trail still very much in infancy. This year, 2011, was a superlative of years as there was not a day that went by that I didn't encounter record snow level, run off, fire or drought. Yet I persevered and in mid September I reached the northern terminus. It's hard to sum up this kind of a journey in a few words, so I won't. Instead, I hope this thirty minute video can help you understand the challenges, rewards, passion and commitment it has taken me in completing such an unparalleled journey. Enjoy! (PS I recommend you watch this not in full screen view as being a video of this length I am restricted to certain file sizes and therefore the quality is much better as it appears on this webpage.)
