AM Briefing from Bowlersdesk.com for April 23, 2014 San Diego's minimum wage is the topic on the tips of many tongues today. First at 12:00 PM City Council President Todd Gloria is releasing the details of a ballot measure that would increase San Diego's minimum wage. Gloria hasn't before specified the amount he would like to be San Diego's lowest pay. However he has said that he wants a quote "meaningful" increase. Some research says that in order to live on a very basic budget a single person in San Diegan needs to earn $13.09 an hour. While others say that raising the minimum wage would hurt small businesses and the economy of San Diego. Supporters of raising the minimum wage are also rallying tonight at 6:30. The San Diego Organizing Project and supporters are set to gather at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Parish in Barrio Logan. This afternoon at 2:00 the San Diego City Council Environment Committee is meeting about the group that was supposed to plan the Balboa Park centennial party and a proposal to decide if they should declare a drought watch in San Diego. Before the committee meets councilmen David Alvarez and Ed Harris are talking to the press about the possible drought watch at 1:30. The controversial Barrio Logan zoning plan is what nurses and healthcare advocate are endorsing this morning at 10:00. They want the community to vote yes on Propositions B & C in support of the new zoning rules; they say the new zoning regulation will protect children’s health. They’ll be with representatives from the Environmental Health Coalition outside the front entrance of the UCSD Medical Center. At 10:30 in front of Rady Children's Hospital supporters of the Medi-Cal Funding and Accountability Act of 2014 are talking to the press. The ballot measure locks in federal funding for Medi-Cal. Its supporters are submitting over 1.3 million signatures to qualify it for the November ballot. In court today two things of note First at 9:00 AM in San Diego’s courthouse the preliminary hearing for former San Diego Police Officer Christopher Hays continues. However we are hearing rumors that the case may settle today. Then at 1:30 in Vista's courthouse Samuel Ruiz is being sentenced for sending threating text messages to a high school student just after the double murder of two other teens. And finally tonight at 6:30 William Shakespeare's birthday is being celebrated at San Diego's Central Library. Good morning this is the AM Briefing from Bowlersdesk.com for March 12, 2014 Early this morning a woman wakes up to a man in her room trying to kiss her. San Diego Police Lt. Paul Phillips says that SDPD was already in the area responding to a separate prowler call when the victim called 911 about the man in her room. Police say that when the victim woke up the suspect ran off and that no property was taken. Officials do believe the two incidents have the same suspect. The suspect is described as a Hispanic or Filipino male, early 20's, short haircut and a little bit of facial growth with a thin mustache, This morning at 9:00 the San Diego City Council Economic Development and Intergovernmental Relations Committee is meeting. And on the docket is the San Diego Convention Center Corporation's report that says fourteen trade shows may pass San Diego by, taking millions of dollars with them. The report says that New York Life Insurance Company sees San Diego as too expensive. The education group Advancement Via Individual Determination or AVID Center say their conventioneers cannot afford San Diego's hotel rates. Other groups are making the same claims about staying in San Diego being expensive along with worries over the completion of the Convention Center expansion. One group that wasn't deterred from having their convention in San Diego is the International Health, Racquet and Sports Club Association. They start their 33rd annual convention and trade show this morning at 7:00. Then at 2:00 this afternoon San Diego City Council’s Smart Growth and Land Use Committee is meeting about a report about transferring properties from the now defunded redevelopment agencies back to the city. Acquiring 114 acres on Volcan Mountain is what the San Diego County Board of Supervisors' is talking about this morning at 9:00 At 10:45 AM Civic San Diego Board of Directors is getting together to talk about how to choses a new president. At noon Councilman Todd Gloria is meeting with a group that wants to raise the minimum wage for San Diego. They'll be outside at Civic Center Plaza. In El Cajon's courthouse there are two Arraignments worth mentioning both set for 1:30 PM. First …73-year-old Leland Clyde's arraignment for allegedly shooting a fellow camper at an R.V. park in Alpine. Then Adrian Atondo is accused of driving drugged, leading deputies on a chase, then crashing into several parked cars. Big data and what that means for San Diego is the subject of a panel talk at U.C. San Diego's Qualcomm Institute. And finally at 6:00 tonight the World Resource Sim Center is workshoping ways to make San Diego 100 percent clean and 100 percent run on renewable energy. Threw this together pretty quick, just having a little fun. Enjoy... A little back ground on the video... All the pictures from 0:26 to 0:56 were accumulated over the last 4 years from races. All of the running footage was when I first got my Canon HF100. It's basically shots from my usual morning run. I love this run. I was playing with the camera and wanting to make a video, but didn't have any ideas. I had the footage laying around, so I combined it with the some video footage from the race weekend to make a fun video.
