    • Echale! A Tu Casa

      from Ecodeo / Added

¡Échale! a tu casa, is an assisted self-build program that provides sustainable community development through social housing production. For an affordable price, program participants can improve their home or build a quality home in just one month -- a process that would otherwise take 10-15 years. In Mexico, 5.7 million families live in overcrowded houses made of unstable or dangerous materials. Some 25.8 million people, or almost a fifth of Mexico's population, do not live in physically stable, safe homes and are in need of adequate housing. Ecodeo produced this video with footage sent from the organization when they won the Katerva Urban Design Award in 2012

On the other side of the world, an East African fishing community is confronting its own seaborne swirl of plastic pollution. Cheap and cheerful, colourful and comfortable, flip-flops are the most basic footwear for so many in the world. Worn in, worn out, and finally discarded at the mercy of the ocean, they remain afloat for years, colonised by barnacles and boarded by swimming crabs. Eventually a confluence of ocean currents and upwellings pushes piles of this flip-flop flotsam towards the islands of the Lamu Archipelago off the northeast coast of Kenya. Thousands of weathered old soles, from as far afield as Indonesia and Japan, come ashore on the beaches of the Kiunga Marine Reserve. It gathers near a turtle nesting reserve, threatening the propagation of the species, my project to launch the first biodegradable flip-flop made out of coconut fibers and natural Latex in hopes to protect our oceans from a phenomena called "The Great Pacific Garbage Patch" which is now as large as the State of Texas and it is composed mostly of plastic, rubber soon to be its next companion. Help me raise awareness, I have tried on my own, but the politicians and corporations will only listen when we come together and show them we will not give up. The largest manufacturer of rubber flip flops plans on producing 400 million pairs this year, doubling the 200 million they produced last year. If these numbers keep rising we will soon be facing a very serious problem, since one third of those numbers will end washing up onto the ocean in the next 3 to 5 years... Share this video with everyone you know, and help me spread this message and get my project in the right hands, for our ocean's sake. Thank you. A one hour documentary about Dr. Riki Ott, a whistleblower who predicted the Exxon Valdez oil spill hours before it happened. A toxicologist, author, and activist, Riki has been organizing the Gulf coast communities to recover from the BP Deepwater Horizon disaster. She is also helping to spearhead the campaign with Ultimate Civics, one that will introduce a Constitutional amendment to end corporate personhood, and to reform campaign finance and contributions. The film also follows how other citizens have also taken her example--to change and strengthen oil pollution of America's lands, rivers and coastal waters. This documentary is scheduled for release in 2013. Accidental Activist is a Bo Boudart/Lobitos Creek Ranch Production

How are humans affecting the Orca whales? How does our choices have an affect on the whales? This doc will give people insight into the lives of the Orca whales that live in the northern Vancouver Island waters. Their habitat is changing fast and their population is also at risk. As a nature lover, I have a passion for the orca whales. Principle photography will be shot this summer July/Aug 2012 on the Johnstone Strait in British Columbia, Canada. Working in cooperation with Orcalab, a whale research station for 30+years in Canada, where they value and demonstrate non-invasive research techniques.
