from Rocky Mountain PBS / Added

The fight against childhood obesity is paved with good intentions. Alarmed by the rising number of overweight children in Colorado public schools, the General Assembly took up a measure in 2011 that would have incorporated physical activity into the daily schedule of elementary schools. As first considered, there were minimum reporting standards that would have, among other measures, correlated between physical activity and academic achievement for each school district. What happened? Actually, not much, according to an I-News examination of the law’s aftermath. -- This project was conceived and produced as a project for the Dennis A. Hunt Fund for Health Journalism, which is administered by The California Endowment Health Journalism Fellowships, a program of USC's Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism.

            • Directors' Series at National Film and Television School

              from Emmanuel Tenenbaum / Added

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT A FINISHED PRODUCT. THERE WAS MINIMUM PREPARATION AND NO POST-PRODUCTION AT ALL. IT WAS JUST FOR TRAINING PURPOSES. This is the work I did during the 4 weeks course Directors' Series at NFTS in the UK. We were 6 students with one or two tutors (director Brian Gilbert and DoP Sean Bobbit). Each week, we had some theory and then we individually had to direct a scene from a film (that we obviously hadn't seen). The scene, the actors and the crew were imposed, all the rest was our individual choices. There was very little time for everything: rehearsal, shooting, editing in one afternoon. FIRST SCENE (week 4): THE MOST IMPORTANT since it is the final exercise of the course. We had to control all the parameters. SECOND SCENE (week 2): this was about staging the actors, there was no special focus on the camera movements. THIRD SCENE (week 3): this was about camera language, trying to find the appropriate shots to communicate the story. FOURTH SCENE (week 1): this was only about directing the actors, no focus at all on staging and camera movements. http://emmanueltenenbaum.com/directors-series-at-national-film-and-television-school/
