What is “Emotionally Literate”? Is a tool to enable young people to explore healthy relationships. We have created a tactile and colourful resource with a selection of practical workshops and exercises to promote understanding, self-reflection and empathy. Who is it for? The resource is aimed at young people in Key Stage 3 & 4 – aged 11-16. Especially developed to target those who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education or are at risk of being permanently excluded. Who was it developed with? We developed the programme with teachers at Manchester Key Stage 3 PRU and Lever Park SEBD School, Bolton. The young people at these schools have been excluded from mainstream education for a variety of reasons, often violent and abusive behaviours towards their peers and adults working with them. These young people often have difficulty expressing themselves with clarity. Some have issues with anger and low self-image/esteem. This often means they find it extremely difficult to engage and function positively with others. “Emotionally Literate” is a pilot project initiated by Aqueous Humour in partnership with The Octagon Theatre, Bolton and Awards for All.
