Once respected scientist, Dr. Yugaloph, immigrates to the United States during the 'not so' cold war to work on a highly classified government project of his own design. However, because of his language barrier, he is only able to work on the project as a maintenance man. Cursed to watch lesser men attempt to finish his work and grand designs, Yugaloph fills his days cleaning up the labs and empty quiet halls, until one day when he finally gets his chance to redeem himself and save the entire project from ruin. My senior thesis for the Savannah College of Art and Design. Shot in Savannah, GA 2010

The Italian Renaissance was mainly a reaction to the corruption of the church and its parochial bigotry; it was a bold uprising by Italian scientists against the ignorance of the priests and their misuse of power; these are the central premises the film revolve around. In the early 14th century, while the black plague was sweeping across Europe, many people turned to the church for help, all in vain. The church was infested with ignorance and superstitions. The public got disappointed with this religious body. Meanwhile, scientific developments brought offered people a beacon of hope and help them weather the wild storms of the Dark Age. With the advent of the Renaissance, sciences and arts, along with architecture began to bloom; now the focus of attention had shifted from the heavens to man. This critical shift manifested itself in the Italian Renaissance in different aspects of life. PRESS TV Documentaries

            • Challenges in coping with flooding in Dar Es Salaam

              09:50

              from Eric Schaechter / Added

Dar es Salaam is a coastal city on the Indian Ocean facing multiple challenges to flood risk and adaptation to climate change. The city is undergoing noticeable changes in its urbanization and growth of informal settlements. This poses an enormous task for city authorities, who have to deal simultaneously with making the city livable and hazard-free. Local government authorities as well as the scientific community have to build knowledge in a relatively short time to minimise damages and economic losses due to climate related events. An action research project conducted by Dr. Nathalie Jean-Baptiste from the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ investigates the capacity of local authorities to integrate flood risk reduction measures and climate adaptation in their local plans. The project was conducted in partnership with the Kinondoni Municipal Council and the Ardhi University in 2014. Documentary filmmaker Eric Schaechter was commissioned by UFZ to shoot interviews with key stakeholders and experts as well as to document the flooding through still photography. The video shows the impact of a flooding event in Dar es Salaam in April 2014. It showcases testimonials from city officials, academics, community leaders and citizens on urban vulnerability and their approaches towards flood risk reduction and climate change adaptation.
