          Our feelings are irrelevant. although it might pain me to acknowledge this reality they truly don’t matter. Because while we might be obsequious in terms of understanding them and wishing for universal understanding, the world still moves on whether it recognizes you or not. It moves on regardless about how you feel. It’s sad, it truly is sad. In this short film, I didn’t only want to promote the 2014 Senior Fashion Show, but I also tried to explore a relatively unadmired realm of filmmaking: documentaries. For this particular project, I stepped back a deconstructed my comfortable field of dramatic storytelling and reconfigured it for a new purposes. Although I kept true to my original rationale to pursue emotion, my objective wasn’t to demonstrate a story, rather to showcase a real happening and event through opinions and ultimately through interpretation of the audience. It was a challenge because although there are different events that create who we are, thus creating a diversity of human beings, I tried to make it as relatable as possible because we are all acquainted with the pain inflicted by good byes and coming of age. Thus, I tried to accentuate this idea as a way to create cohesion with the audience, while still portraying it in an objective way. This has also introduced me to the “dark side” (in terms of appreciation and association) of filmmaking, and has influenced me to pursue other projects of this nature. Because of this,t I have been contacting Dave Butler (CEO and Founder of Youth Future International) about traveling to Ghana for community service as well as to create a promotional short film. On another, unrelated note, it is marvelous how simple videos could lead to the production of both creative, and socially meaningful, projects. If everything goes as planned, I will be going to Ghana the summer of 2014.

              I consider this film as a paradigm shift in respect to my directing style. Not for the fact that I had to be speculant in not only casting the parts, but most importantly directing, writing it, editing it, and figuring out how all aspects of filmmaking could potentially work unanimously to great a impacting Story and Feeling. Throughout this film, I tried to maintain the idea inspired in “Ride” and “Never Forgotten” which would be to explore the universal feeling of love by exercising visual storytelling. Not to forget that the main idea is to explore the nature of love, to what extent is this overwhelming influence justifiable? All during making a – in my opinion – memorable coming of age love story. I consider this film very unique because of it strong imagery and the different use of symmetry to evoke an uncomfortable feeling. Basically, this is further exploration of a medium. Reality has the tendency to hurt us and to disappoint us, it is because of this that we create fiction stories because through them we are able to escape. At least in our stories we can be whatever we want to be, create perfection in an imperfect world. At least in our stories we are able to have the love we want, to experience the lives we wished we had, but probably can never have. This is said regardless of horror, abhorrence, tenderness, or sensitivity, because the magic of film to make you romanticize about an adventure with a love that is true to you whether it might be through light, or through dark. I feel like this statement of the twisted promise of love isn’t only stated in the work as a unanimous collaboration between screenwriting-acting-cinematography-direction, and soundtrack, but it is also beautifully revealed through the slow developing actions of the protagonists. Taking this into consideration, Danish film director Nicolas Winding Refn was a major inspiration in regards to the narrative and thematic structure of Us. I tried to replicate his brilliant storytelling technique in which his slow camerawork not only enhances the feeling of a scene, but also to accentuate its sinister themes which the film is based upon. Winding Refn tries to tell his stories visually, which I feel is the purest form of cinema due to the fact that cinema is a visual medium that immerses and astounds you by the beauty through camera.                 MUSIC CREDIT: Apparat - Goodbye No matter how much we fight for something, or how much we sacrifice for something, the truth is that sometimes this thing is not meant to be ours. And it pains me to realize that this is true no matter how much I intent to gain something. This film serves to capture this universal and unique feelings through silent images as well as to propose to an audience how I felt (for sympathy this a value of film I have recently discovered). What is interesting about this technique is that audience if unraveling the story as it proceeds, I leave clues in the film in which the audience is supposed to collect that conclude were the story is going (dramatic irony). Throughout the film, I tried to focus on feminine features without compromising the female herself, thus helping the audience (males) relate with the struggles of the protagonist as well as glorify the feminine idea.
