Bachelor film project 2012 from The Animation Workshop. Story: As morning dawns on a Norwegian suburb, a detachment of killer-slugs, led by the notorious Sergeant Slug, prepare for a heads-on attack on a small garden – their objective? A juicy, delicious flower on the other end, deep within a flowerbed. A new conscript and his close friend, a medical officer, both suit and join in the massive charge into the garden. But as the slugs emerge into the exposed field, they stand head to head with a diligent, elderly lady, hell-bent on keeping her garden pristine and safe from pests. As the two sides clash, it is as the saying goes: All's fair in hunger and war! This is a film about memory loss in old age. The title of the film ‘Primum non forgetful’ explores part of our Hippocratic Oath when it comes to the medical approach to memory loss. Primum non nocere, as stated by Hippocrates, translates as: first, above all, do no harm. This film, Primum non forgetful, argues that we have lost sight of the range of reasons behind forgetfulness in age. This film is presented in two parts: the first part will explore the current drive and seemingly universal imperative to diagnose dementia early. Increasingly this determination is effectively translating into widespread cognitive screening of our elderly. Whilst it remains important to tackle the delayed diagnosis of dementia the film will close by suggesting potential harms of the urge to diagnose earlier and earlier.
