Last October I attended the International Yunlin Puppet Theater Festival in Wuwei, Taiwan, at the Yunlin Storyhouse (http://www.ylstoryhouse.org.tw/en/) I gave 6 performances, 2 impromptu performances, and two DIY workshops, very popular for the education of the arts in Taiwan. The work presented mostly presented and encouraged the spectrum of traditional puppetry with international groups performing in the daytime as to encourage the attendance of schools. http://www.ylstoryhouse.org.tw/en/ Then, of course there was myself, not really a children's theater. I nearly dropped dead after almost 8 shows the first of which was performed the day I arrived for TV in front of the mayor, with a group photo in front with the entire town. That was the hardest day. I also exhibited the costume in their fabulous museum for 12 days while we traveled around Taiwan. I have always heard this is a beautiful country, which it is The Taiwanese children are great and very well behaved. I think they loved my show. As they could get right on top of me, and responded with every gesture, they screamed and giggled, and welt I knit in nicely with the kids. It was the most gratifying show I did. The temperature there was tropical so all that weight of the costumes in a bodysuit was a bit. overbearing . History & Mission of Sha Sha Higby Sha Sha Higby approaches theater and dance through the medium of sculpture. She has an almost painterly manipulation of physical materials and textures made from wood, paper, silk, ceramic, and gold leaf; interwoven with a labyrinth of delicate props. The development of a performance is the final stage of Sha Sha’s process of creating rich textural objects. It becomes a ritualistic spectacle for these objects to come alive and to cast a spell on the audience. Transitions we face in our life are outlined in Sha Sha’s stylized performance world. Sha Sha Higby’s work occupies a unique place in the history of art for its fusion of elements from traditional performance genres- including costumes, masks and rituals-and contemporary stylistic languages. Not only is her work highly imaginative, witty and emotionally moving, but she is a consummate craftsman. When we move about, the space around us is filled with invisible drawings, colorful sketches and complex patterns. The work strives to create a path where movement and stillness meet. Shreds of memory lace into a drama of a thousand, intricate pieces, slowly moving, stirring our memory toward a sense of patience and timelessness. It is an anatomical and emotional inner vision of the body styled into a whimsical sculptural costume that comes alive in non-linear story of transformation. Sha Sha studied for 1 year in Japan, 5 years in Indonesia under a Fulbright Scholarship, and 6 months in India. Affected strongly by studies and travels abroad to Indonesia and Viet Nam, she has received numerous awards and grants and has been performing since 1982 internationally and nationally mainly as a solo artist. She is sometimes in collaboration with musicians and visual artists. After Higby returned from Indonesia in 1982, she developed her own form of sculptural theater and performed in universities and museum Touring Subsidy roster and also performed throughout the U.S., Europe, the Singapore Festival of the Arts, the Hong Kong Fringe Festival, the Bali Arts Festival, and the Sydney Festival of Arts. And received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts in Theater, and the Japan-US Friendship commission, and recently from Theater Bay Area CASH and the Zellerbach Family Fund.

This is our local meditation hut and was shot during a recent exhibition of the Muse by "Art for All People" at Commonweal.. Here is a poem to get you into the mood. All rights reserved on this video. We start early in the morning to climb the mountains, Fog lifts in ribbons off the autumn trees, Man with his cow and rope on the side of the road Churches have spires, like the fantasies of fairy tales Showers of yellow forests reflect on fallen leaves. Geometric "wooden shingles " of the houses Crisscross in zigzag patterns Sculpted Cyprus trees pierce the deciduous forest. We pass the summit, lots of snow. Woman with her potatoes, People selling mushrooms, waving us down A man bicycles with his cabbages, Handmade birdhouses over the entrances of each house Smells of burning hay. Man with a complexion of cheese And pinkish red coat grins towards me We stop by side of road for sugar pastries rolled on an iron pillar We are 12 miles outside of Brasov Snow capped hills above glistening long valley Woman with her potatoes, cabbages Corn on the side of the road More buggies and carts and people piled up on dried corn Pimento and pickle conserves for sale Cabbages on the rolling wooden carts Rolling in the darkness of night, This morning in the cool of the morning, Visit a dark monastery They are chanting With candles pierced into twisted loaves of breads, Chanting within the frankincense smoke Shadows of golden halos and. Vaulted ceilings. Huge splayed birdsʼ nests on top Of every other telephone pole Clips of the hooves of the horses A young colt trips along the highway Orthodox places of worship everywhere just like pagodas in Burma Rounded humps of hay hanging in the angles of the light, We are on the edge of the Ukraine, On the other side of the river, Monastery nestled in the breast of the mountains green Golden embroideries, a monk inch his black lace, and smooth skin reads his book The Madonna was so beautiful . With her hammered silver vest and halo I know now we are in the tip of our journey having traveled all this way To reach this peaceful place and Find the beauty of our own backyard on a lovely day. …………………….Travels last October travels in northern Moldavia, Romania SHA SHA HIGBY-COSTUMER AND PERFORMER International performance/sculptural artist, Sha Sha Higby is known for her evocative and haunting performances using the exquisite and ephemeral body sculpture she meticulously creates herself and moves.
