Helicopter flight from McMurdo Station on Ross Island to my backyard in the Dry Valleys of the Transantarctic Mountain Range, Antarctica. My tent is slightly up the mountainside next to Canada Glacier, and my "office" consists of a lot of the glaciers in these valleys. It's a beautiful life. :) (Sorry for the camera shake; I did my best from my tent for a very windy helicopter ride + lack of decent editing software on a student budget.)

The first detailed, high-resolution 3-D maps of Antarctic sea ice have been developed using an underwater robot. Scientists from the UK, USA and Australia say the new technology provides accurate ice thickness measurements from areas that were previously too difficult to access.
