      • Elliott Bay Trail to Seattle's Great Wheel

This frigid week I decided to play with some video clips from a warmer time. I had already posted Elliott Bay Trail--the Scenic North https://vimeo.com/48172409 and the new bridge connecting Seattle Center with the water https://vimeo.com/54382052, but not the ride south to the Seattle Art Museum (SAM) Sculpture Garden and Seattle's Great Wheel. The Elliott Bay trail is a beautiful waterfront ride that goes all the way from Magnolia to downtown, though this ride, as well as the Scenic North, began at the infamous metal switchback tower and bridge over the tracks to Puget Sound. Also for those who like to ride up high places, the Sculpture Garden features a long ramp up to a narrow lookout over the busy downtown waterfront, including the Seattle Great Wheel. (You have to walk in the rest of SAM's art park.) The view will soon change. The Alaska Way viaduct, a double-decker elevated highway right beside the piers, will be coming down. Hopefully it will be done according to plan, and not because of an earthquake. It will be replaced by a tunnel, leaving the surface free for much more urban waterfront park. (BTW, here is a simulation of the viaduct coming down in an earthquake http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_c9LIFOKRv4.) The Wheel itself stars in the latter part of the video. A word about the music: I am not at all religious, but I love gospel music, both bluegrass and black. I thought "Dip Your Fingers in the Water" and "Ezekiel Saw a Wheel Way Up There in the Middle of the Air" would fit this ride.
