Casey Reas spoke at "see conference 2006". The conference on "visualization of information", organized by digital creative agency Scholz & Volkmer, is dedicated to new approaches that are being developed in the fields of design, art, architecture, new technologies and economy to confront today's complexity and to transform the immense flood of information into useable knowledge. We annually invite speakers - a broad mix of approaches, ways of thinking, industries and cultures – to present their most recent ideas on how to deal with the current flood of information, on how to visualize it and turn it into something that can be experienced. The American artist Casey Reas is considered a pioneer in the development of aesthetic software. Firstly, he presented his programming language 'Processing', which he developed in collaboration with Ben Fry and Doug Bennett. And, with his latest work, he demonstrated a way to create impressive art from algorithms and dynamic software. Reas' approach is a very experimental one, he is working with dynamic software that independently reacts to changes in its environment, and with systems that are neither programmed nor predictable, but only react to interferences of the user. Casey Reas a professor in the department of Design Media Arts at UCLA and one of the founding professors of the Interaction Design Institute Ivrea. After completing his studies in Graphic Design Marcos Wescamp worked for agencies such as Bascule, Razorfish and Dentsu. The Argentinean and self-taught web designer has created some of the most interesting flash applications such as Flick Graph, Habitat Perspectives, or Newsmap. The latter has been awarded at the Ars Electronica 2004. At the see conference #2 Weskamp presented his projects "Social Circles" and "Flickr Graph" which aim to visualize social networks and the interrelations and social hierarchies among the members of online communities. His objective is to filter information from abstract data matter and use his applications to make it visible in a new, surprising way. London-based art and design collective rAndom International was founded in 2002 by Hannes Koch, Stuart Wood and Flo Ortkrass. rAndom International have developed a series of artistic projects and installations that aim to re-interpret the “cold” nature of digital-based work by providing the viewer with the opportunity to have a more hands-on experience with technology. More recently, their work has investigated the potential of adding behavioural qualities to usually in-animate objects and environments. Apart from experimental works rAndom realizes commissioned works for clients such as Philips, Fiat and Nokia. The work of director and founder of the Munich-based company velvet mediendesign is characterized by its unconventional cinematographic perspective. TV design, e.g. for news channels, requires a certain form of visualization we see every day. Within only a few years velvet mediendesign has become one of the no. 1 TV designers in Germany and worldwide. Aljazeera, arte, n-tv, ZDF, CNN or Telemadrid are only some of Zentner's customers. His projects explore the nature of communication by visualizing sound, movement and human behaviour. Together with collaborator Golan Levin he created "Messa Di Voce", a concert performance in which the speech, shouts and songs of two vocalists were radically augmented in real-time by interactive visualization software. One of his most recent installations is "Motionscapes", which aims to give disabled children new ways of interacting with their environment and expressing themselves. Lieberman has held artist residencies at Ars Electronica Futurelab, Eyebeam, and most recently at the New York Dance Theatre Workshop. Together with Golan Levin he has been nominated for Wired magazine's "Artist of the Year" award in 2005. More Info at http://www.see-conference.org Organized by Scholz & Volkmer: http://www.s-v.de

He studied architecture and is involved in diverse projects. For example, he is co-founder of the Berlin "Kiez-Tank-Stelle" association, which organizes so-called "school talks". He gained international recognition for developing "Hartz-IV" designer furniture, named after Germany's social welfare system, and the do-it-yourself 1 square metre house. At the moment, he is addressing the question as to how the world and the economy will function in the future. For this purpose, he wants to bring together progressive thinkers from the education scene and the most inspiring minds from the new economy.
