The idea for passion projects began as a way for students to address individual community involvement concerns that are not specifically tied to a particular class or the school-wide community involvement curriculum. To participate, students write and submit a proposal about their cause and their plan to build awareness and ask for support during Passion Project Friday. Once the proposals are approved, the students move into action to prepare for the big day. Throughout the process, students, teachers, and administrators have engaged in discussions about things like: how to communicate effectively about your cause, how to price suggested donations appropriately, return on an investment, and charitable contributions. This year's passion projects included support for many causes, from saving Golden Retreivers from euthanasia, engaging in anti-genocide efforts in Africa, saying no to GMOs, to helping research a cure for epidermolysis bullosa.
