I’ve enjoyed watching the dance of the planets over the last couple of weeks. This shot was taken on the 3rd of August 2010, with Venus, Saturn and Mars forming a wedge pointing west and setting over the Shark Bay Stromatolites. Exposure varied from 100ms -> 20s and ISO from 100 -> 3200.

    • Canon 5D MK2 24fps Test - Images of Monkey Mia

Hours before I left for my annual family holiday to Monkey Mia, Shark Bay, I uploaded the new firmware update for one of my 5D's. I was keen to see if shooting in 24 fps was going to make a difference to the old 30 fps. This is some of the footage I took in between fishing, swimming, relaxing and enjoying the odd beverage at the end of a hard day. OK the bevies started around lunch time but when your on holidays who's keeping track off time. Has the 24fps frame rate improved the look of the footage? I cant say for sure so I will leave it up to you. It looks like all the rest of my stuff, maybe a little smoother????? For anyone who's interested, Monkey Mia is a small settlement in the World Heritage Area of Shark Bay, approximately 900km's north of Perth, Western Australia. It is where the dolphins come to interact with us humans looking for an easy feed. Luckily CALM has controlled the interaction between us humans and them so they remain wild animals and dont become dependent on us. It's an amazing part of the world with turtles, dugongs, dolphins and of course Sharks, and plenty of them, grazing on the extensive sea grasses of a very shallow bay system. The land is very arid and is punctuated with red sand headlands which meet the white sand of the pristine beach. It is a special place for me and one I visit with my family every year without fail. Hope you enjoy my favorite place in Western Australia. All shot on the 5D, Edited in FCP, Music Soundtrack Pro and James Newton Howard from the " Village" Check out us at www.christianfletcher.com.au

My second last trip on True North. I have practically circumnavigated Australia during the last year on this magnificent vessel. My journey on this occasion started in Fremantle, Western Australia and ended in the Port of Dampier. Along the way we visited the Abrolhos Island's, Steep Point, Dirk Hartog Island, Shark Bay, Coral Bay, Ningaloo Reef, and the Montebello Islands. Once again the remote beauty of Australia was in full display with amazing coastal headlands, tranquil bays, coral atolls, and windswept islands abounding with life. Life under the water was just as impressive with spectacular diving, snorkeling, and fishing. Along with the visual spectacular came an amazing history, from savagery and barbarism on the Abrolhos Islands, to Atomic testing in the Montebello's. It was truly amazing to think what had taken place in this incredibly remote region of Australia. As I speak True North has started it's iconic Kimberley Wilderness season and will be thrilling the lucky few who will have the privilege to witness one of the worlds greatest' wonders. I have come a full circle and wish to once again visit the Kimberley. The experience on "True North" goes beyond my feeble little videos. Nothing can replace a real life experience. My advice to anyone who want's to be moved by a unique holiday adventure, get on True North and experience the wonderment of Australia's hidden treasures. Visit the boat at www.northstarcruises.com.au Check there blog at truenorthmark.wordpress.com For info on us visit www.christianfletcher.com.au All footage was shot with the Canon 5D mk2 and Canon lenses. Edited in Final Cut Pro.

What water gave me. "Johanna: What's it feel like when you dive? Jacques: It's a feeling of slipping without falling. The hardest thing is when you're at the bottom. Johanna: Why? Jacques: 'Cause you have to find a good reason to come back up... and I have a hard time finding one."
