1. Pot Garden Raid

    One man was arrested when law enforcement officers raided a marijuana garden Friday, July 30, 2010, that was located between the wind turbines and Highway 299 west of Burney. The man arrested was taken down by a law enforcement canine, but a second man fled into the woods. Some 3,300 plants were uprooted, loaded onto a trailer at the vista point east of Hatchet Mountain and hauled to Redding to be destroyed.

      John Edward Coburn, 49, of Johnson Park was arrested Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, for allegedly being under the influence of a controlled substance. Deputies were told about 4:45 p.m. that a man was running in and out of traffic on Highway 299 between Oregon and Cottonwood streets in Johnson Park, jumping on the hood of a passing vehicle, lying in front of the tires of a parked big rig, and causing a disturbance. He reportedly jumped into the back of a small black pickup traveling west toward Burney. Deputies stopped the truck and detained Coburn until medical help arrived.

        Shasta County sheriff's deputies were called just before 5 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, and told a man had been shot at a home off Big Bend Road about one-quarter-mile north of the Pit Stop Store. Deputies reported the victim, Sonny Moss Potts, 27, died from gunshot wounds. Deputies that afternoon arrested his half-brother, Noah Ryan Potts, 28, and booked him for murder. Another man, Colin Horn Kennedy, 25, was booked for conspiracy to commit murder.

          The two Shasta County sheriff's Special Weapons and Tactics team members who shot and killed gunman Gregorio Estrada have been identified and are shown in video above. Det. Troy Clegg, left, and deputy Jason Gassaway make their way across Main Street, heading toward the south side of US Bank. The two fired a total of seven shots with one of Gassaway's bullets killing Estrada. Gassaway regularly works in the City of Shasta Lake and was a deputy in eastern Shasta County from 2002-05.
