What do you love about the Short North? We set out, with sharpie pens, sticky notes and a 20+ foot map of the area between Goodale St. and 5th Ave. What we found amazed us. We found that nearly everyone we meet had a story to tell, and would gladly share when given a simple method with which to do so. They found themselves immersed in the stories of others and contributing to a huge map representing the hidden treasures and good memories that can be had within that small section of Columbus. Thanks to Kathryn Gallery (which is sadly, closing down :( ) for allowing us use of their wall & their support. Thanks to the Short North Business Association for all the work they do to see that we have a vibrant community TO love. Thanks also to Melissa Gebauer for volunteering to help share our stickies and sharpies during the evening. ...and thanks to EVERYONE who came out and participated!

Columbus police planned to have uniformed and plain clothes officers walking the streets Saturday night as tens of thousands of Central Ohioans took to the bars and restaurants to party on Halloween. From a Buckeye win to decent temps and an extra hour added to the night as we turn back our clocks, things were expected to become interesting. Skully Webb, owner of Skully’s in the Short North agreed, “I think it’s going to make things very interesting because everyone is holding back for a little bit, the party will last longer, and they’ll act crazy because they have that extra time to party.“ According to Columbus police Sgt. Rich Weiner, the plan was “business as usual” for his officers, stating that Columbus police had enough personnel to deal with whatever happened.

CowTV is pleased to bring you highlights from the 2nd Annual 2009 HighBall Halloween -  Costume Contest.  Touted this year as, "a cross between Carnivale and Mardi Gras with a pinch of Halloween and a healthy splash of the Short North's artistic spirit." - the event was certainly all that and more!  The crowd was HUGE - it was estimated to be somewhere between 15 and 20K (that thousands Dorothy...)  Costumes of all shapes, sizes and colors displayed the unique and creative variety that you can only seem to find at a Short North event.  When we arrived, it was clear "the spot" to be was right along the stage area.  Located mid-distance on a closed-off High Street - between 3rd Ave. and 5th Ave. - the massive stage provided the focal point of activity.  When DJ Moxy started spinning, the crowd got moving - then, Host Nina West took to the stage - a commanding presence alone!  Not long after greeting a few familiar faces in the crowd, zombies started slowly creeping up onto the stage - you know, because zombies are good at creeping....then....the sounds of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" erupted over the huge speaker system.  What happened next had the whole crowd's attention captured - held captive - a synchronized dance routine involving Nina West and a troupe of zombies moved and grooved to "Thriller".  The moment the music stopped, the massive crowd of thousands expressed their approval with thunderous cheers and applause.  What a way to start a mere costume contest - wow! Congrats to John Angelo, head of the Short North Business Association, the group responsible for the event and the many, many others who came out in costume and helped pull off yet another PHANTASMAGORIC HALLOWEEN EVENT!  Can't wait to see what happens next year! Enjoy the footage...it's a quick ride, but all the costume contest participants are there, so site back and enjoy....leave a comment and tell everyone your favorite part of the evening or who you thought had the BEST COSTUME! Oh yeah....one last thing....CowTV has signed "Alien Pimp" to an exclusive contract for starring in a new show - as always - stay tuned!
