                Great efforts require collaboration, but if you had to credit a single person for the recent fracking ban voted on by the Butte County Board of Supervisors in Northern California, it would have to be Dave Garcia. The man affectionately known as “Ranger Dave”, has always been a nature lover and someone who wanted to be of service. After a career as a police officer, then a park ranger, Dave joined the Sierra Club, eventually chairing its local Yahi Chapter. It was during this tenure that Dave hosted a viewing of the film "Gasland", and became aware of the risks of fracking, a dangerous and highly polluting practice of extracting the last traces of fossil fuels by using massive amounts of explosives and chemical-laced water. Since then he has made it his mission to utilize his so-called "retirement" years to educate his community and protect his region. {917 Kelly Ridge Rd, Oroville, CA 95966}
