"Opticons" are visualizations based on transformation of 3D glassy solids. With their oval and organic shapes, the transparent forms generated many optical illusions and caustic reflections during the transformation process. Subsequent Opticons are the Simulacra: illusionary formations generated with the use of professional industrial tools allowing for accurate simulation of the laws of physics. (After Jean Baudrillard's Simulacra and Simulation.) The project refers to the idea of transgression of what is commonly perceived as virtual. "Opticon IV" was created in cooperation with Hubert Napiórski – artist, composer and soundtrack author. Acknowledgements to Hubert Napiórski Roch Forowicz Acknowledgements to Paweł Przychoda

This video is meant to be projected on top of a 10 x 5.75 foot mural. This video is horizontal, but the projection will ultimately be vertically oriented in order to get the most pixel information when it is projected on top of the mural. Please keep in mind that this is only a fraction of the premeditated installation experience. Documentation of the site specific installation will be uploaded by the end of June, 2014.

SIMULACRA - interactive video installation by Karina Smigla-Bobinski at MoTA - Museum of Transitory Art in Ljubljana (Slovenia) - Dezember 2013 with kind support of Goethe Institut Ljubljana .............................................................................................................................................. Whilst being the Resident Artist of MoTa in Ljubliana, Karina Smigla-Bobinski will build a interactive video-installation. Video art and technique is nothing new, but she used this to play with our seeing sense. Karina Smigla-Bobinski withdraw the flood of images from the medium and lays the true nature bare: light. She does that with a analogue change in the technical order of digital imagesystems, and repositions the virtuality back into the viewers head, making it an organic, analogue mental cinema.

Last night in my dream all of Behzad’s miniature paintings washed up in the pink water on the shore. Some of the paint was smeared and faded but the ones that remained intact I hung on the walls of a shack. There were castles decorated in mathematics, wars in purple forests, Alexander the Great on the outskirts of a crystal city meeting a holy man. The first Turing complete digital computer was mostly used to design a Big Bang that ended up falling onto a surgical clinic in Japan and killing around a hundred thousand people in under a second. A few decades later that same architecture was used for ground breaking special effects in the film Terminator Two. Now almost all of our culture passes through the gate of Von Neumann’s model. Soon it will completely subsume us. Maybe it did a few thousand years ago and we’re living in a binary illusion while we build another system mimicking the one we’re already inside. Maybe this has happened a few hundred times and we’re lost in a giant net shaped like pyramid, stuck in a black hole beaming messages across the galaxy to some previous civilization that was once our own but has since become a simulacra just like us. ---------------- gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sW44byfrcW4 This is a video of an environment you can actually enter. While the video is playing at anytime a viewer can press the enter key and have a look around the world for themselves. When the viewer finds the triangle paintings real world lights are turned on and a lady starts telling stories.

A music video with visuals created out of paper on my desk. Artificial landscapes as a reaction on the fact that there's no untouched nature left in the Netherlands. Every single square meter is designed by men. The title Simulacra refers to the philosophy of Jean Baudrillard, who describes a 'simulacrum' as a copy without an original. Simulacra is the plural of simulacrum. The project is part of my desire for the untouched nature. I have images in my head of those places without ever been on the location. The landscapes I created are copies of those places without an original...

Quantum Swarm Is a visual experiment which uses human forms to symbolize the wave-particle duality found in quantum mechanics. The question being; how can light be both particle and wave at the same time? A similar question: how do individuals consciously operate as both a wave, caught up in the flow of society, and a particle, experiencing and reacting to their own reality. These questions are not exactly answered, but only visually toyed with as we watch 5,000 human particles enter the "Quantum Swarm" Making of: Part of a continuos experiment initiated by Light Harvest on subjects such as gravity research, particle physics models, human emotion, and metaphysical conjuring - this short piece originally appeared at the Bonnaroo Music Festival on a 80 foot tall L.E.D. Tower. The footage of the performers was produced by Ryan Uzilevsky at both Light Harvest Studio and the House of Yes as part of an on going experiment with aerial flying rigs. Some of the footage also appears in the architectural video mapping work's "SIMULACRA" (collaboration with Bobby Redd) And "AS ABOVE, SO BELOW." (in collaboration with Leo Kuelbs and Farkas Fulop) Both can be found here on Vimeo. A large part of the research that made the Quantum Swarm possible is due to Yevgeniy Rokhlin, a visual effects artist and prominent studio collaborator at Light Harvest. This piece is the culmination of an ongoing experiment and only represents one possible outcome of an idea that continues to evolve into new forms
