The title sequence we put together for the cycling film produced by Sinamatella Productions. From the small town of Iten, 2 300m above the Rift Valley in Kenya, to the raw energy of Kigali, Rwanda, this is a story about the potential of African cycling and it’s ability to restore faith to this most beautiful, difficult and enigmatic of sports. Can Africa be the next cycling powerhouse? What challenges stand in the way? Who are the characters? Baisikeli follows the Kenyan National Cycling team as they hope to emulate the success of their running brothers and make a career in the sport. www.sinamatella.com/makingfilm/baisikeli/

Was it a dream? Was it a folk-tale? Did these protagonists come here to fight on old battlegrounds or did they come in celebration? Perhaps they just looking for a journey, a chance to travel back to the start, to rediscover their love for the bike. Inspired by TS Eliot’s Little Gidding, this short film tells the story of the 2012 Single Speed World Champs held in Africa for the first time. http://www.sinamatella.com/makingfilm/kunye/ ____________________________________ Director: James Walsh Editor: Katherine Millar Cinematography: Dale Hunt, James Walsh Sound Mixer: Gareth Wharton Voice Over: Gareth Murphy Aerial Footage: Steve Bolt Onboard Bike Cam: Cammou Dave Archive Photos: KZN Wildlife Ezemvelo Producer: James Walsh ________________________________________________________________ Thank You: Amy and Burry, for being the first Africans to win the title. All of our marketing for our film tours has been focused on starting conversations using on-line platforms - email newsletters, websites, social media and blogs. Without consciously making the choice, our policy was not to print flyers or posters or billboards but to try and be as efficient and as effective as possible. But we've changed. After seeing an article on Dutch Ink, http://www.dutchink.co.za, we fell in love with their work and the concept of reverse grafitti. It's perhaps a bit romantic but we think reverse graffiti as a kind of 'organic' billboard - a means to communicate a message without disrupting skylines, lamp posts or the general urban environment. Urban art when all one is doing is removing dirt! So if you see one of these pieces around Durban, take a photo and send us an email (lifecycles@sinamatella.com) and we'll give you a free ticket to the Life Cycles screening in Durban on the 15th August 2011. We wanted to create a short vid that explained the big idea that was driving our business. So we approached Craig from www.motifstudios.co.za to help animate our thinking. They bent over backwards and burned the midnight oil to turnaround this project in a very short space of time! Thanks Craig. So we hope you now have an inkling into what we're trying to do.
