        • The Green Tie Affair

A hilarious musical about a green tie-wearing puppet (voiced by Hawai'i's first American Idol, Jordan Segundo) living in a human world who is deprived of his identity when people begin to imitate his fashion style. Featuring 4 original songs guaranteed to make you sing along. "The Green Tie Affair" is arguably my best work because it's a very personal story. Prior to making this movie, I've been known to wear a flashy green tie whenever I go out on special occasions and every time I wore that green tie, I wondered what my reaction would be if I saw someone else wearing the exact same thing. The story was born out of fear of losing one's identity. The music of "The Green Tie Affair" draws heavily from the Disney Renaissance cannon. The Disney Renaissance included films like "The Little Mermaid", "Beauty and the Beast", "Aladdin", and "The Lion King", and sparked a rebirth of success in animated feature films from the mid-eighties to the mid-nineties. These films were musicals that followed a Broadway narrative template. In adopting this template, "The Green Tie Affair" included such familiar tunes as the romantic love duet, the villain's I'm-Going-To-Get-You song, and the I Want song, which can usually be heard at the beginning of your typical Broadway musical where the hero sings about, essentially, what they want and the audience roots for them to get it by the end of the story. The voice of Hickey Pine, our puppet protagonist, is Jordan Segundo, who was the first contestant from Hawaii on American Idol. It was quite an honor having a local celebrity (the first I've ever had) in a film of mine. Not only did Jordan perform the songs with utmost prestige and professionalism, but he also did an outstanding job as a voice actor, reciting lines of dialogue and reacting to imaginary characters in a sound studio. This was also the first film that features a fully operational puppet that was hand-crafted from scratch thanks to the marvelous Eddie Horn (www.sonnyvegas.com). It was this film that made me realize and proudly accept my status as Hawaii's premier puppet filmmaker. "The Green Tie Affair" was produced in 2009 and went on to win a slew of local, national, and international awards.
