Watch in HD if the tab looks blurry! Me playing the guitar solo originally played by Michael Romeo of Symphony X in 'Of Sins And Shadows' from the 'Divine Wings of Tragedy' (1997) album. In regular guitar tuning EADGBE for easy play-along. (the backing track plays at 185 BPM) I've left the rythm guitars out of the backing track to make the solo extra audible. Playing this one isn't half as hard as playing it anywhere near clean. I love this solo because it is a perfect first look into the signature Neoclassical playing style of Michael Romeo. Great for learning how to combine multiple aspects of guitar playing (Tapping, string skipping, legato, alternate picking etc.) in one guitar solo without it being forced. More guitar and other stuff can be found on my Channel, including original work as well. For recording this I used my Steve Vai Jem signature model guitar with an Yngwie Malmsteen signature pick up replacing the original single coil. Software used is Project Sam Orchestra Essentials combined with synthesizers for the backing track and Pod Farm for the guitar. Recorded with a Nexus tablet. Hope you enjoy! And please don't hestitate to comment if you've got any questions or remarks. About the Band (taken from Wikipedia): Symphony X /ˌsɪmfəni ˈɛks/ is an American progressive/power metal[1][2] band from Middletown, New Jersey. Founded in 1994 by guitarist Michael Romeo, their albums The Divine Wings of Tragedy and V: The New Mythology Suite have given the band considerable attention within the progressive metal community. They also have achieved more commercial success with the 2007 album Paradise Lost; the band's 2011 album Iconoclast is the highest chart position and the most first-week sales in the band's history. Michael Romeo about the origin of their name: "So, you know, the music we were coming up with had the keyboard thing and the guitar, and some classical elements, so the word 'Symphony' came up and, so the dramatic thing, you know? So then, somebody said 'Symphony X' and we were like, 'yeah, that's cool' it is that kinda thing, and the 'X' is the unknown and all the other stuff we do."[3] About the album 'Divine Wings of Tragedy' (again taken from Wikipedia): The Divine Wings of Tragedy was the album that first gave Symphony X exposure in metal circles. It took a considerable time to record the album, with the recording sessions beginning in 1996 and concluding in 1997. The positive feedback from the specialized press served to establish Symphony X in Europe; their success in Japan only continued to grow.
