Exhibited at the Roundhouse as part of the 2011 PuSh International Festival for the Performing Arts, January 18 – 29, 2011 The Train, as means of navigating space, played a significant role in mapping and shaping nationhood in the 20th century. It changed our way of perceiving time and space. New media is changing this again, and is one of the reasons, we believe, there has been a renewed interest in the idea of alternative mappings over the past few years - because the technological capabilities of cell phone cameras, social networking sites, etc. afford us the tools and epistemological framework to navigate space in radically new ways. In our latest work, TMG explore the impact of rapidly developing technologies on our embodied experience of knowledge, time and space. Source imagery and audio related to the Train has been culled from two distinct archival systems: the Vancouver Archives online, a highly structured and official organization of history; and user-generated platforms like youtube and flickr. The resulting audiovisual collage, Tracking Trains of Thought, can be accessed three ways: 1. Virtually: from an interactive map of Vancouver at www.themissguides.com 2. Remotely: download the podcast to your smartphone at www.themissguides.com/Train. Then hop on the Canada Line in Vancouver at Waterfront Station, press Play, and experience the piece during the 25-minute ride to YVR International Airport. 3. Remixed Live: at a temporary exhibition at the Roundhouse, where you are invited to remix audio and visual tracks into your own personal and ephemeral narrative of the train.

--- this experimental mobile phone video piece was made in 2005 in bangkok, thailand as a precursor to my move back to the states. i wanted to show a day in the life of a person in bangkok thailand, through small vignettes. the piece makes use of the skytrain, a newly constructed heavily-embraced transportation system, and in between stations, shows daily-life moments in the country's capitol city. ---

www.scubatechphilippines.com Video shot of a technical sidemount dive upon the newly discovered (2012) wreck of a Japanese WWII Showa/Makajima L2D "Tabby" transport aircraft. The Tabby was a DC-3 Dakaota/C-47 Skytrain variant produced under license in Japan pre-war and used extensively during the war. During the Japanese occupation of the Philippines, the Japanese operated Tabby aircraft from numerous locations, including Clark Field near to Subic Bay. There were war-time reports of at least 9 Japanese aircraft being shot-down over Subic. This wreck was originally discovered by staff from Boardwalk Dive Center, but at 45m/150ft depth, few visiting divers have had the ability to see it. Aircraft identification resulted from this video (and stills taken on the same dives). The identifying dive team were, Andy Davis, Brian Ferguson and Tim Mathieson. Shot with GoPro HD Hero2 (no video lights)
