This video shows step by step how to set up a Little Phatty to be polyphonic with a stack of Slim Phatty's adding extra voices. Watch the Polyphonic Slim Phatty Chain in action: http://vimeo.com/20920400 1. Set the LP Output MIDI channel to channel 1 2. Set each Slim's Input MIDI channel to channel 1 (not required to be channel 1, but needs to be SAME channel) 3. Plug MIDI Out of the LP to MIDI In of the first Slim 4. Plug the first Slim's MIDI Thru to the second Slim's MIDI in, and so on. 5. All audio outs need to be plugged into their own channel on a mixer or audio interface 6. In the LP's Master menu, scroll until you find MIDI setup 7. Scroll within MIDI setup until you find Poly 8. Set the Little Phatty to be 1 of X, the first Slim to be 2 of X, the second to be 3 of X and so on, where X is the number of voices you have.

Since last weekend I've been playing around with my new Moog Slim Phatty since I want to explore the world of analog synthesis (which is new to me). This video shows two ways to tie the Eigenharp's expression capabilities to the modulation features of the Slim Phatty. The first one uses the breath pipe, similarly to a traditional mod wheel and the second approach uses the sideways inclination of the playing keys to control the modulation amount. This video demos how this influences your playing.

This is an original composition, played live on the Eigenharp Alpha and looped for some parts. This song can be downloaded from SoundCloud: http://soundcloud.com/gbevin/sometimes-is-not-enough It uses a single sound on my Moog Slim Phatty for all the sections of the song. This one of the challenges that I've been setting for myself. I want to create only a few very expressive and versatile sounds that I perfectly learn to play on the Eigenharp in all their nuances, as opposed an arsenal of thousands of sounds that are totally unconnected from myself. Here I'm driving the Slim Phatty over Control Voltage, giving me an incredibly detailed connection to the expression of the sound. This is possible thanks to the Expert Sleepers ES-3 module which converts the data from the Eigenharp over digital ADAT audio to Direct Current. Pressure on the keys is tied to volume, left-right movement to filter cutoff and up-down movement to pitch. I'm additionally controlling distortion through the breath pipe of the Alpha and delay feedback through its strip controller, both are AudioUnit effects from Rob Papen. The looping is done through Mobius and is controlled through a Rig Kontrol USB MIDI footpedal.

June 17, 2011—We are proud to announce the release of Phatty OS v.3.1, a major firmware upgrade to the very popular and portable Phatty family of analog synthesizers. The upgrade to the Phatty operating system coincides with an aesthetic upgrade for the Little Phatty Stage 2 Edition, as Moog introduces new black sidepieces. New features in the Phatty OS v3.1 update include the following features that improve power, sound and control: • Volume Velocity Sensitivity: The ability to map note velocity to output volume with fifteen adjustable levels of sensitivity saved per preset. [Tribute Edition hardware does not currently support this feature] • Legato Glide: Automatically engage the pitch glide between legato notes. Non-overlapping notes snap instantly to a new pitch. The user is able to play or sequence dynamic bends and slides mixed with cleanly-articulated notes. • LFO Reset: The ability to reset the LFO cycle at the start of each note. Two LFO trigger modes provide dynamic new modulation possibilities. • Sustain/Hold Mode: A sustain pedal or control voltage plugged into the CV GATE input jack can now be used to send MIDI Sustain on/off, and to polyphonically sustain MIDI notes from the Phatty keyboard. • 14-bit MIDI: All Phatty synths can now send and receive high-resolution 14-bit MIDI messages for critical voltage-controlled parameters. • MIDI Output Filtering: New options control which MIDI CC messages are sent from the Phatty, for maximum compatibility with external gear. • Expanded MIDI Clock sync options: 22 clock divisions including triplet values for both LFO and Arpeggiator MIDI sync. Clock divisions range from 32nd triplets up to 4 bars. • Improvements to Arpeggiator: • Global Arp Setup menu: Set important arpeggiator parameters at a global level. Arpeggiator also remains active when presets are changed. • Gate Length: Adjust the arpeggiator note length from 50% to greater than 100% (overlapping), for a range of new sonic textures. • Arp Clock Send: Arpeggiator can now send MIDI Clock, MIDI Start and Stop messages, allowing you to synchronize other gear to the Phatty internal clock. • Improvements to Polyphonic Mode: o New polyphonic note-allocation scheme: Uses a "round-robin" algorithm to share notes across multiple Phatty synths in a natural and very playable way. o Polyphonic arpeggiation: Multiple ways to use the Arpeggiator across a poly chain of Phatty synths, from tight integration to completely freeform. Availability and pricing: The Phatty OS v.3.1 Update is a free Firmware upgrade for all Phattys: Little Phatty Tribute, Stage 1, 2, and the Slim Phatty. It is available for download at www.moogmusic.com/OSv3.1. It is also available as a Factory Upgrade from Moog. Should you choose the Factory Upgrade, Moog will update the firmware for your Little Phatty (Stage 1, 2 and Tribute) as well as include a sonic tune-up to the latest hardware for $99.00.
