Antelope Canyon just outside Paige Arizona was and continues to be formed by flash flooding of Antelope Creek as it flows north to Lake Powell. Swirling water cutting through the Navajo sandstone rock produces the sculptured formations while sunlight bouncing off the canyon walls produces the fantastic colors. Over the past 11 years we visited upper and lower Antelope Canyon on three separate occasions in different seasons and time of day. With each visit the light was different. The light beams reaching the bottom of the canyon were captured in the upper canyon on May 22, 2004 at 12:50 PM. Tours of the upper and lower sections of the canyon are available at each section of the canyon or from the city of Paige. Video was created as a Windows 10 test using Microsoft Photo Story 3 to produce the video. Titles and music were added using Adobe Premiere Elements 9 also running on Windows 10.

    • The Subway

      from Trevor Collette / Added

September 19th, 2014. Our group hiked down a slot canyon in Zion National Park known as The Subway. The mystical journey through the Left Fork of North Creek involves route finding, plunging cautiously into chilly pools then sloshing, sometimes frantically, through frigid water over and through difficult obstacles. The narrow Subway section of this hike forces hikers through a unique tunnel sculpted by the Left Fork of North Creek. Churning water chisels the rock floor, forming shallow potholes that fill to the brim with frosty water.

Zion National Park is known for its stunning landscapes. But it is also home to wild adventures. The relatively new sport of canyoneering has seen a huge increase in popularity. And Zion is one of the world's premiere destinations for exploring technical slot canyons. The national park is also a staple in the climbing world. And despite its history, big-wall climbers are still establishing new climbing routes and developing whole new climbing areas that are otherwise untouched and unclimbed. "The human spirit craves connection with the natural environment. We all feel the allure of the wild places in the world. We need these places in our lives to inspire us, to teach us, to reveal truth and beauty, to humble us, and to heal us."

Day 2 of our Zion Trip, Kolob Creek Kolob Creek is the intro into the Advanced Slot Canyons of Zion, it usually takes anywhere between 12-20 hours to complete. We got a pretty late start and started hiking in at 9:45 and and only had to walk in the dark for about 20 minutes, sometime just after 10 pm. We completed the hike in just past 12 hours and it included 12 rappels of up to 165 feet tall. This hike was done on July 1st, 2014 in drought conditions with 0 cfs :( Hope to go back with flowing water which enhances the beauty and challenge of the waterfall rappels.
