This series of short documentaries document the process of reflection following the work put into The Sun Practice in Concert (April 2015) and The Moon Practice (May 2015). "our preparation for the evenings in which we are to share our practicing consists of practicing - and reflecting. our method of reflection is conversation. there are two formats of conversation we engage in, one of which is recorded and later edited to form video-shorts. you can see these as poetic documentaries that are to uncover (give credit to, valorise) different interests driving the practice; and to do so: as they keep changing, shifting, becoming clearer, and becoming less clear. to us. to you. to all." "i think i should start talking about the practice in terms of: the weather." you can find more information on The Sun Practice in Concert and The Moon Practice at pavleheidler.wordpress.com

            • Institute for Societal Leadership - The Beginning

              from SMU ISL / Added

Never before have issues in society been so complex. The world used to be a simpler place. Governments and businesses had clear roles, and citizens were willing recipients. Today, in a complex world where governments have become more transient and businesses have been accused of being self-serving, who will step up, who will own the change and who will make the difference? Isn’t common good the basis for everyone to be successful? As the world becomes more interconnected, and the opportunities for cross-sector collaborations grow, a new type of leadership has emerged. On a macro level, Societal Leadership is about wielding influence across sectors to make societies better. From an individual standpoint, it is the practice of creating sustainable value and impact for the betterment of society, within one’s sphere of influence. It is our belief that in order for large problems to be solved, more people need to be involved. The humility to find answers is more important than the arrogance of knowing the answer.

By Quentin Defalt In the heart of Senegal there are men and women living off their land, who draw from the experience of their ancestors, to reach an agreement among themselves that would make it possible for everyone to survive in such an arid and uncertain environment. Today, facing new ecological (climate change), economical (population growth) and political challenges (what kind of society do we want to live in?), we accompany them in recognizing that their own ideas of how society should look like, are not less realistic, reasonable or sustainable than any other. We provide methodological support that allows them to consolidate their proposals vis-à-vis the central power and the mainstream knowledge (represented at national or international level). Our method is easy to reproduce, so that people can use it during self-organized workshops all around the country in order to initiate exchanges and contacts between different sites and communities. From these exchanges a horizontally shared vision of society emerges, as well as specific ideas about how to actually make it happen. At this stage, the challenge is to reinforce these horizontal exchanges without the uptake to the national level, through sharing our game with sites and communities in other regions of the world.
