AL RUWAIS, THE BIOELECTRIC CITY By Liran Sun ( Team: Vicki Xiao, Dongming Sun, Mohammed Muhaymin) MArch Urban Design in UCL Next I looked at the previous simulation, I think the location of this dynamic network is stable and efficiency location to collect energy, so I overlay these two simulation results together and got a result like this. These are the sand bars we will create. Finally, we began to consider the height of sand bars, as the vertical drop of sea water mean level is about one meter. In case of covered by sea water, the sand bar need to be higher than mean sea water level. Creating port for collectors, collectors will bring concentrated algae solution to port and our pipe will plug into ports. So the more collectors passing by sand bars, the lower the places will become.

AL RUWAIS, THE BIOELECTRIC CITY By Liran Sun ( Team: Vicki Xiao, Dongming Sun, Mohammed Muhaymin) MArch Urban Design in UCL Then I apply the algorithm onto our real site. The reason why I chose shallow as a reference is I think these shapes are bearing a pair of balanced forces, they are under a stable state. With shape as this, it will be easy to keep stable in the sea. I hide the water just show the deformation of sand bar, we will use white sand to create the foundation of our sand bars. As many artificial islands in UAE like palm islands and the world using white sand to construct. We will cover bio-gel on it later.

AL RUWAIS, THE BIOELECTRIC CITY By Liran Sun ( Team: Vicki Xiao, Dongming Sun, Mohammed Muhaymin) MArch Urban Design in UCL Then I faced a basic and crucial question, how large is these collectors, what’s the shape of them. Luckily, I got inspiration from field trip. I noticed there are two specific pattern along coastal line of Ruwais, ripple effect and shallow. Shallows are quite interesting as they seem to parallel the coastal line. I consulted some geographic essays and learnt these patterns are mainly leaded by tidal current, water mean level and wind. First I did some studies on how these factors will influence the pattern of shallow. I add external factors step by step,…. tried to balance their influence and finally got similar result as what we saw on coastal line. This is the results I got, there are tiny different between each one.
