This is a 30 second piece showing the planets within the Solar System made in After Effects appear both on screen and off screen by the use of camera effects. It shows the Sun moving past the screen following text which then shows other planets beginning to appear. These planets appear in the same order as the Solar System (Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune) which then moves off camera. When all planets finishing moving individually the starry sky moves in a direction showing all planets which then align as a glare makes the screen fade the white.

NASA’s Discovery & New Frontiers Programs present a KidTribe Production, “Space School Musical,” a magical journey through the solar system. This original “hip-hopera” brings the solar system to life with nine songs that move and groove as they combine science learning with fun lyrics, music and dance. Students watch the video, learn the songs, and perform the show themselves, resulting in a totally engaging, multi-disciplinary learning experience. The story: Hannah is wishin’ she were on a space mission – her science project is due tomorrow but her solar system model isn’t done yet. How will she finish in time? With a little help from her friends – the most talented troupe in the Milky Way! The Planetary Posse and their moonwalking buds, crazy asteroids, the gravity gang, a meteor-wrong, a stand-up comet, and 3 scientist heroes lead Hannah on a whirlwind trajectory through the solar system. She learns that space is definitely one cool place!

This video was created to give the students an idea of the scale of the solar system we live in. The students used the diameter of the rotunda as the diameter of the sun and then calculated the relative size of each of the planets. The distance from the rotunda (Sun) to the elementary building represents the distance from the Sun to Neptune (don't get me started about Pluto!). This distance was broken up to show relative distance between each planet. This was my first video project at HSA.
