A brief introductory video about the New York City Coalition Against Hunger - their mission, programs, and approach to ending hunger in the City. The video features Executive Director, Joel Berg, as well as Food Action Board* members testifying on NYCCAH's impact in their communities. The Food Action Boards (FABs) are political engagement groups that meet every two weeks for training on advocacy and hunger issues. The goal of the FABs is to bring the voices of people facing food insecurity back into the public policy dialogue around hunger. FAB members have become involved in local, state, and federal food policy debates. This video was made possible by the generous production team at Royal Stewart Entertainment - www.rsetv.com

The Isabella Community Soup Kitchen resides on Adams Street in Mount Pleasant, Mich. It has been around for about 20 years and serves to alleviate hunger for those in need. The soup kitchen is not only available for the community, but also for students in need from Central Michigan University. Breakfast and lunch are the main meals provided seven days a week. Agnes Heyl is a local volunteer who comes to volunteer for the soup kitchen whenever she is available. She has been helping out for about six years. Heyl helps serve food, clean the kitchen, cook, and more. Her desire and willingness to help out her community is remarkable. She loves volunteering so much that she even helps out at the Commission On Aging and the Animal Shelter in addition, which are also in Mount Pleasant. She says that she loves helping the people because it makes them happy, and when the people are happy, she is happy. Throughout her many years volunteering, Heyl has become loved and respected by the patrons who come to the soup kitchen, as well as the staff and volunteers. She is always laughing and smiling, stopping to talk to the community and keep them company as they sit and enjoy their meals. Her kind spirit and sense of humor is infectious and she brings joy to all at the soup kitchen. She truly is a gem, always putting others before herself.

Chris Story worked in several factories before becoming director of the Community Inn, Stanly County’s homeless shelter. Story took a pay cut when he accepted the position, but he felt God had laid it on his heart to take the job. Two years later, he remains dedicated to serving homeless men and women. Story admits that he can’t fix the lives of the people he serves, but he can make sure they have a meal and a roof over their heads each night. He sees his guests as people, refusing to judge their circumstances and choices. Story says each morning is like a new slate for him to be able to impact the people he meets.

I was lucky enough to make a little documentary about the Atmosphere soup kitchen. Atmosphere Resorts sponsors a feeding program that provides 85 children with a solid meal 5 days a week. The children are from one of the most impoverished areas in Dumaguete, Philippines, 30 minutes away from the resort. The aim is direct and simple: One nutritional balanced meal per day to school children between the ages of 6-12. Too often, these children do not have access to one substantial meal a day, which makes it hard to pay attention in school or even go to school if they have to spend that time finding a means to get food. The success of the program is owed to the mothers of the children who volunteer and run the program, do the daily preparation, serving and clean-up.

Last summer we spent three days with the children of Nor Hajn Soup Kitchen in Armenia. We made pinatas, drew pictures, and distributed art supplies. This video shows some scenes from our time there. It is not much, but we hope it will spark some interest in these soup kitchens that are so necessary to the people of Armenia, and yet barely get by. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped with this project! More information is available at www.hiddenarmenia.com
