    • Join us on our creative journey...

from Adelaide Central School of Art Added

After years of planning, the journey is now complete and the Adelaide Central School of Art has moved into two iconic heritage buildings located in the idyllic Glenside Cultural Precinct just on the edge of the city of Adelaide. This video takes you into the main Teaching and Studio building to give you a glimpse of the building during the initial construction phase. We worked with an award winning team of architects, engineers and builders to refurbish these buildings to create superior teaching and studio facilities for the School's use over the next 50 years, due to an extended lease offered by the State Government. The new School campus is right next door to Adelaide Film Studios, home of the South Australian Film Corporation and related creative enterprises, in a vibrant arts and learning community. Already, some of our graduates have seized cross-media opportunities and are employed on associated film projects. As well as providing new opportunities for our degree programs and students, improved facilities will enable us to implement our secondary schools outreach program, and extend community access through our public programs such as short courses, masterclasses and workshops. Adelaide Central Gallery will also have a new home with us, as does Central Artist Supplies … all set on beautiful grounds, conducive to en plein air painting and outdoor sculpture installation, with improved studio, teaching and reference facilities purpose-designed to suit our needs, now and into the future.

                • Cuttlefish Country Documentary Film Trailer

                  from Dan Monceaux Added 58 0 0

South Australia's Northern Spencer Gulf is home to a unique marine wildlife phenomenon. Each winter, Giant Australian Cuttlefish gather along rocky reef at Point Lowly to breed and die. Since 1998, the aggregation has attracted film-makers, scientists and tourists from around the world- but change is afoot in Cuttlefish Country. The population has crashed from 250,000 animals to just 13,000 and despite cries from locals of nearby Whyalla and conservationists, no recovery plan is in place. Meanwhile, a plan of a different nature unfolds- a plan to transform the Upper Spencer Gulf into a heavy industry hub. The channel is narrow and shallow, yet it is marked as a nexus for seawater desalination and massive mineral export shipping. BHP Billiton's contentious Olympic Dam copper and uranium mine dominates news headlines with its trillion dollar ore body of copper and uranium. Santos controls the Cooper Basin's oil and gas reserves. Numerous junior miners plan to turn prospects into profits for their shareholders. The State struggles to regulate and remain impartial as chief beneficiary of taxes and royalties. The media spouts economic promises of mining riches, but the costs to society and the environment are scarcely discussed. Infrastructure projects threaten the amenity and integrity of prized beaches and coastal systems from Point Lowly to Lipson Cove, a critical refuge for Little Penguins. The gulf's extensive mangroves and seagrass meadows provide critical nurseries for commercially important fish including snapper, crabs and prawns. Professional and recreational fishermen are concerned about the gulf's future. Ways of life hang in the balance... beneath the sea, on its surface and along its shores. Cuttlefish Country is a film about change- in industry, society and the environment. Like the cuttlefish themselves, the voices of Cuttlefish Country are those of predators and prey, peace-makers and militants, dreamers and pragmatists.
