Are libraries in danger of becoming obsolete in the 21st Century? Emphatically not, according to Dale Vidmar, professor of information literacy and instruction at Southern Oregon University's Hannon Library. Vidmar examines the future of libraries in the context of a dynamic, technological culture in a talk entitled "Libraries in the 21st Century" delivered on February 18, 2010 at the Southern Oregon University Hannon Library. Drawing from personal and professional experience, Vidmar leads a journey of exploration, examining libraries past, present, and future. From the Royal Library of Alexandria to the Tanimura & Antle Family Library at California State University, Monterey Bay, and beyond, from chaos to democracy, from books and periodicals to Kindles and questions, Vidmar will consider the role of libraries and librarians in the lives of individuals and communities.

The goal of the project “Indigenously United” is to bring out the voices of indigenous peoples by focusing on the restoration and regaining of sovereignty that is occurring within the Native American communities, such as the Wellbriety Movement and Konaway Nika Tillicum Youth Academy at Southern Oregon University. I plan to conduct interviews on the restoration of Native American communities and individuals, the meaning of being indigenous, and the visions for the globe. I also aim to bring to public awareness the relevance of restoring indigenous communities, that through restoring indigenous communities we restore ourselves and the globe. I would like to bridge the gap between the indigenous communities and the so-called mainstream or non-indigenous communities, revealing the unity that is the truth of our being. Indigenous communities of the world are the leaders for realizing the vision of a life-sustaining, soul-fulfilling future.
