The Bible is a Book that came from a geographic place, that place is long ago and far away. The origin for each of the words is from beyond earth, since God Himself breathed out each word. But the writing down of the text of each book, that makes up the Book of Books called the Bible, took place on three continents: Europe (some of Paul’s Epistles), Africa (some of Moses’ writings), and Asia (where most of the Bible was written and took place in the Middle East and Asia Minor). 2012DEC02 EBI-01

There is a platform each of us stand upon each day of our lives. It is called the platform of exposure to sin. This platforms leads each of us to: SEVEN STEPS SOMEWHERE. We all stand this moment on a platform known as the platform of exposure to temptation to sin. From it lead seven steps in each direction. Downward steps are: 1. TRIFLING WITH SIN Psalm 66:18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear. 2. YIELDING TO SIN Romans 6:13 And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 3. HABITUALLY YIELDING TO SIN Romans 6:12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. 4. ABANDONMENT TO SIN Ephesians 4:19 who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. 5. ABANDONMENT OF GOD TO SIN Romans 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 6. Being Used By SATAN TO TEMPT OTHERS Romans 1:32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. 2 Timothy 2:22-24 7. HELL: AND YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DIE TO GET THERE. Hell is character as well as location. The one who hates everything that God loves is tasting a bit Hell now and Hell is in them. The Upward steps are: 1. RESISTANCE AS AN ATTITUDE: determining sin will not have Dominion over me. Daniel 1:8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. 2. OVERCOMING SIN BY FAITH. Hebrews 11:25-27 choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, 26 esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward. 27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible. 3. HABITUAL VICTORY OVER SIN. The strength from one victory helps you with the next. 2 Corinthians 2:14 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. 4. LEARNING THE SECRET OF A VICTORIOUS LIFE, a life hid with Christ in God. Colossians 3:1-2 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 5. TAKEN UP BY GOD INTO DEEPER FELLOWSHIP. You trusted God now He trust you, like Daniel, greatly beloved. Psalm 65:4 Blessed is the man You choose, And cause to approach You, That he may dwell in Your courts. We shall be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, Of Your holy temple. 6. MAKE AN EXAMPLE OTHERS FOLLOW. Philippians 3:17 Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern. 7. HEAVEN: AND YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DIE IN ORDER TO GET THERE. Heaven is character as well as location. The one who loves everything that God loves, is tasting a bit of Heaven now and Heaven is in them. The Spiritual Law of Sowing & Reaping Turn with me in your Bibles to Galatians 6:7-9. One of the most vital lessons we as believers need to learn, and that we as Biblical Counselors & Disciplers need to share is found in Galatians 6:7-9. Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart God never sleeps, never gets distracted, and He notices everything we say, think, and do. The spiritual law that Paul here describes in Galatians 6 is called the consequence engine. 2013JAN16

        • GOS-16 - Unwrapping the Gift of Salvation - The Gift of God is Jesus

from Calvary Bible Church / Added

Christmas and gift giving are forever tied. Since God so loved the world, that He GAVE (Jn. 3:16). Every human is a sinner earned the wages of death, but the free gift of God is eternal life (Rom. 6:23). By grace, we sinners God loved are saved, not by works, because it is the gift of God (Eph. 2:8-9). The Gift of Salvation is Jesus That is the Gift of Salvation; and the Gift of Salvation is most associated with Christmas, because that is where it all began. Christmas is when God gave the greatest gift, the gift that no one can afford, no one can earn, and no one but God can give. But no amount of money on planet Earth could ever purchase a gift that can measure up to the value of the very first Christmas gift—the only gift everyone really needs. Christmas is actually about this gift that no one really seeks after, yet desperately needs. What is that gift? The substitutionary death of God’s beloved Son, Jesus Christ, Who came to meet our critical, eternal, life-threatening needs prompted by our sins! The Gift of God of Salvation is not a package, it is not a gift card, or a new gizmo: salvation is a person. We could best say that salvation is: The Only Gift Everyone Really Needs is Christ As we open the New Testament, we can start to unwrap the Gift of God. Opening the Scriptures is the way we unwrap our gift. Our gift is Jesus, and the Scriptures unwrap Him for us. Only a born-again believer can unwrap the wonders of Jesus. Only redeemed and regenerated eyes can see and savor the beauties that we are looking at together. That is why we invite the Lord to open our eyes, because all of these truths about Christ are only seeable by salvation’s opening our eyes. 2012DEC02 GOS-16

          • SSU- 2014-1-13: The Cost of Discipleship

            from Sabbath School / Added

Study 13 of 13 on Discipleship “The cost of discipleship? Sometimes it isn’t the persecution from an outside force but the giving up of our preconceived ideas. Oswald Chambers writes "People pour themselves into their own doctrines, and God has to blast them out of their preconceived ideas before they can become devoted to Jesus Christ." That blasting out of our preconceived ideas…or our wrongly inherited ones…is like God setting our broken spiritual bones right…it hurts…it’s hard to move initially…but when it heals….and we clearly recognize Jesus as our Saviour and friend…we are able to continue our power walk with Him.” –Falvo Fowler Scriptural Basis: Luke 12:49–53; Deut. 21:15; 1Cor. 9:24–27; Matt. 18:8, 9; John 14:1–3; Heb. 11:32–12: Key Text: “Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:7, ESV). 1. What’s the seeming fixation with Christians and suffering? If you don’t suffer…does that mean you’re not “disciple” yet? Matthew 16:21-25; Luke 21:12-19 2. How does that compare with the promise to Abraham? Luke 18:28-30; John 14:1-3; 3. What then is the true cost of following God? 4. Is our focus on the cost overshadowing the joy of the gospel? 5. Luke 12:49-53 and Luke 14:25,26: What is Jesus telling us here? 6. How do we, on a daily basis practical basis, put Christ before everyone, including family? 7. Then in John 13:35 “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another” (NKJV) How do you feel about this radical call in comparison to what was in Luke? 8. Discipleship comes from spiritual discipline. What can a local church do to encourage that? Paolo Benini (Italy) contributed questions for this study

            • ESH-08 - The Discipline of Integrity: Pursuing Personal Godliness

from Calvary Bible Church / Added

              218 Plays / / 0 Comments

God's Word is explaining to us that we have an appointment for a workout in the gym. God Himself wants to train us in how to live, walk, and grow in Christ. The Discipline of Integrity means we choose to do what God's Word says we are supposed to do. As Paul continues to relay God’s message to each of us, we remember from last time Paul used the highest level of emphasis that is possible to convey in the Greek language. Remember those bright colored words that stand for the emphasis God placed on them grammatically? We are each invited by The Lord to spend time each day: working out. This workout is illustrated by Paul with scenes from the culture of his day. Guided by the Spirit of God, Paul uses the examples of the three most well known sports from the gymnasium, and applies them to the life of every believer. Just as our world has recently witnessed the modern Olympics, so Paul’s world also had witnessed the ancient and original Olympics for hundreds of years. Paul was so focused upon God that he could even see spiritual illustrations in those huge sports events. Paul says that: Healthy Believers are Spiritual Athletes In the Greek world there were the great Isthmian Games at Corinth; and the great Pan-Ionian Games at Ephesus. These led to what was the greatest of all the games, the Olympics held every four years. After three years of ministry in Ephesus and one and a half years of ministry in Corinth, we can see the impact Paul’s exposure to these games had on his ministry. So, using athletic metaphors, Paul explains the pathway to long-term spiritual health for believers. Once we are saved, God wants us to be growing in Christ-likeness, that is what spiritual health is all about: reflecting Christ from more and more areas of my life. Paul now explains these disciplines in a way that ties together elements from many of his other letters. Paul uses the pictures from every day life around the first century believers: The world of the gymnasium in 1 Tim. 4:7-10. Please stand and follow along in your Bibles as we hear God speaking through the Apostle Paul. 2014MAR02 - ESH-8

from Discover the Book Ministries / Added

What was wrong? David was hiding his sin, and Proverbs 28:13 says that He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy. Thus the only solution for his dreadful condition was repentance. As David desperately struggled with attacks from within and without, he poured his lonely heart out to the Lord in Psalm 38—an intense lament over the awful sin for which he was being chastised. www.dtbm.org
