José is a nationally acclaimed, award-winning spoken-word artist who has inspired thousands of college students with his powerful message: we are all divine and have the ability to transform the most tragic of moments in our lives into beauty through the use of artistic expression. José Canta translates into José “sings” in Portuguese and is a stage name inspired by José’s grandfather, who was abandoned as a child and forced to work in coal mines in order to survive. Later in life, he lost his 3-year-old daughter in a tragic accident. He never emotionally recovered and went onto live a miserable life filled with suffering and pain right up until his last breath. José Canta is a philosophy that none of us have to hold onto our suffering. Through poetry, José has overcome socio-economic oppression and emotional depression. His story is an inspiration to all who listen. His shows are more than entertainment, they are life-changing events.

http://inspiredwordnyc.com/ NYC Spoken Word Artist/Poet Lee Sachs features @ The Inspired Word All-Star Showcase, Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, Bareburger East Village, Manhattan, New York City. Hosted by Eric Lee. This is the 2nd of 2 parts. Lee Sachs wrote, directed and starred in his award-winning thesis film "Wild Sound." That short film earned him an MFA from NYU, received many awards and favorable press in the New York Times and the Village Voice. He's wrote for a Hollywood producer that called him "bubbeleh," wrote a screenplay for a vanity project about a wealthy Iranian antique dealer financed by a wealthy Iranian antique dealer and scouted locations for Woody Allen. His early performances mixed music, stories and performance art at venues like the Knitting Factory, The Bottom Line, PS122, Dixon Place. Once the internet swallowed us whole, Lee got sucked into information technology still honing his writing covertly in a secluded location. Disguised as an "IT consultant" for companies like Verizon, Avis and Jaguar he grew a respectable practice in User Experience. Now, he emerges from that disguise and tears the lid off business, technology, advertising and stupid buzzwords like monetizing eyeballs in his one-man show. Lee lives outside New York City with his wife, son and a lot of cats. His website includes the Museum of Marketing Madness, www.madnessmuseum.com & www.leesachs.com. The Inspired Word is one of the country's hottest open mic/performance series. Produced by longtime journalist and former Village Voice columnist Mike Geffner, it happens weekly in downtown Manhattan, New York City. Detroit area Spoken Word artist Alex White treats us to a candid peak into the sinister occult world of corporate greed with this masterpiece named after the Chinese electronic manufacturer notorious and now made infamous in the mainstream news for having to install safety nets around its facility to keep overworked and emotionally spent workers from jumping off its roof to their suicidal deaths. Alex uses this emerging art form to highlight the plight of the global "worker-slave" who is continually being asked by these greedy corporate Goliaths to perform more and more for less and less in return, to the detrimental loss at times of their very spirit. He does a great job in spinning the "freudian slip" inherent in the company's name, Foxconn. Don't be fooled, Alex has a lot more hiding under the surface of his own work than meets the eye, too. Subtly crafted and wonderfully innovative in its spoken form. Great job, mate. Keep 'em coming! ;) And as I post this video of Alex, guess who's in the news again hiring some fancy schmancy PR company to cover up their doo-doo: You guessed it: Foxconn!!!
