A night of astrophotography with a friend out under the remote skies of Concan, Texas (2 hours west of San Antonio) captured in timelapse. My setup on the right, his on the left. We headed out from San Antonio under cloudy skies, passed through a few rain showers on the way, but were treated to a clear sky with an amazing view of the night sky. We imaged until about 5am when an approaching thunderstorm sent us packing. Three separate scenes totaling about 600 images with a canon 5D3 and 16-35mm f/2.8: setting sun to night during scope setup, several hours of astro imaging, and finally take down with a storm approaching. It captured the night well and is likely better than the astro shots I'll produce! Music by Paulin Garner State Park in Concan, Texas

This is a 6hr time lapse of Saturday night at year's fantastic star party. Lots of red flashlights to keep night vision while observing through big telescopes. The "burning" trees are from a red rope light that illuminates a steep path down to the lake and facilities. Thirty second exposures, ISO 6400, 14mm lens, Canon 5D MkIII (modified), Losmandy StarLapse 30deg/hr. Location: River Valley RV Park in Gladwin, Michigan. 9/15-16/2012.

Fraser Cain started by wondering whether the view from a telescope could be streamed live into a Google+ Hangout. Now he's hosting a weekly star party Hangout where some of the world's most curious amateur astronomers share their views of the universe with anyone who wants to join in.

Each year the Grand Canyon National Park hosts a star party where amateur astronomers from all over the country arrive to set up their telescopes so that visitors to the canyon can view objects in the sky. The event is very popular and hundreds of people attend. The grand canyon offers clear air and dark skies which provide perfect conditions for astronomical viewing. The park is an interesting place. You can meet people there from all over the world, the rangers are friendly and helpful, and the scenery beyond compare. This was shot on a Canon 60d and some of the time-lapse sequences where shot with a GoPro Hero.
