          from Cameron Presentations Added 508 11 4

Originally shot to test our new 4k capable Panasonic Lumix GH4 camera, this video is the result of a spur-of-the-moment decision to search for the beautifully hypnotic and awe-inspiring sight of thousands of starlings preparing to roost - known as a "murmuration". After canvassing nature-loving friends for tips my wife and I headed to the Scottish borders and found a likely-looking spot, a small hillock beside the M84, and waited while the sun set. But we noticed that there were no large flocks of starlings to be seen so we made the decision to load the gear back into the car and follow the smaller gatherings that we had seen flitting past us. We drove for quite a while until we found ourselves lost and so we stopped at a random layby to get our bearings. While we were there we noticed a small group of people climbing over a nearby fence and into a muddy field. On the off chance, I ran after them and asked if they were looking for starlings. As outrageous luck would have it they didn't regard me as a raving loon, they knew what I was looking for, they knew the exact spot where the huge flock would roost and, if last year's show was anything to go by, we were in for a treat. So back I ran to the car, explained what I'd learned to my wife, picked up the camera gear and negotiated fences, muddy fields and puddles until we arrived at ground zero. As I set up the camera the starlings were already beginning to gather... Towards the end of this amazing display it was getting very dark - in fact we had to use a torch to help us find the way back to the car - so the camera was struggling in the dim light and I had to keep bumping the ISO up. Because of this the footage got very noisy. It was also a struggle to keep focused by this time but I've included the final few shots that show how quickly the whole show comes to an end as the starlings sprinkle themselves into the nearby trees. Music - "Murmuration" by Gerry Clark. The whooshing sound at around 2 minutes is actual audio captured from the camera as thousands of little wings whirred down and around and past us. An unforgettable and exhilarating experience.

In november 2014 our creative director Roald focussed on filming starlings in super slow motion. His goal was to create airplay for the dutch band MTT by using their music as the soundtrack of this video. It turned out to be a great succes. It was shown on national television and on the website of Hart van Nederland the video had 849 Facebook shares.

              from David Added 209 1 0
