Dear snow enthusiastic world, Whichever mountain you call home, whether you snowboard or ski, we would offer that we are all a part of a special winter community. We are a community that shares a passion for snow and the mountains; a passion that unites us all. Stevens Pass is the home mountain to many, and we are excited to showcase what makes it so unique. We hope you will find something in this film that reminds you of your home community, and what makes it special to you. For us, it’s being surrounded by amazing terrain, deep powder, and people living their lives with as much joy as they possibly can. If you didn’t already know that you were a part of it; welcome to the COMMUNITY.

    • PCT 2014 - Washington (Section K) - Stevens Pass to Rainy Pass (123 Miles)

One of my favorite sections (and one of the hardest) on the PCT. It's up and down all the way and by mileage and distance it's mathematically the most difficult section of the trail from a foot of elevation uphill divided by total distance. Most of this section is dominated by hiking around the base of Glacier Peak (10,541 ft) with glorious vista views from the top of Fire Creek Pass. The last part of this section entails a stop at Stehekin, an isolated resort at the western end of Lake Chelan (the largest natural lake in Washington state at 55 miles long). It's the last stop for many hikers when it comes to a resupply and is a great place to take a zero day. There is only one more section after this one and then you are at the US/Canada border.

Trying to get over the mountain on a busy day, an eastbound vehicle train is lined into two sidings on the way up to wait for two downhill west bounds. An easy drive in the family car over Stevens Pass would take a couple of hours to get to Wenatchee on a nice day. For the crew on a BNSF freight train it could take up to several hours getting from Everett to Appleyard. This train will eventually end its trip in Chicago after several crew changes. First shot is looking up the Foss River canyon at MP 1730 as a "Z" train heads to the meet at East Skykomish, (looking down the Sky Valley). Later the action is at East Scenic where a manifest emerges from the west portal of Cascade tunnel toward the again sidelined V-train. The conductor gets out of the cab for a stretch as he watches the roll by. The guys exchange a bit of banter and report their visual inspection results to each train. The date is April 18th, 2010.
