- Eliot Rausch Agradecimentos: Steve Van Doren, Ray Barbee, Leila Hurst, Steve Caballero, Keith Morris, Stephen Murray, Mason Murray, Seth Murray, Tony Alva, Curren Caples, Russ Pope e Christian Hosoi

sneakers.submarinechannel.com The third episode takes us to Dogtown were skateboarding, and consequently Vans, got big. There we meet Steve van Doren, vice President of Vans, Deedee Gordon trend watcher from from Look Look and professional skater Tony Alva. Alva explains how Vans used him and his friends as test pilots for the development of the perfect, durable, gym rubber deck shoe for skateboarding. Sneakers is a 50-minute documentary about the history and social significance of sneakers. The film asks the question how sneakers have evolved from being the “poor man’s shoes” to an icon of modern lifestyle and subculture identity. Directed by Submarine Channel co-founder Femke Wolting, Sneakers emphasizes the fashion and design aspects of the popular sports shoe, showing the design process and the ways that brands profile themselves on the competitive sneakers market. The film also focuses on the extraordinary shoe designers, as well as on the people who buy them and wear them. The film mixes original footage with commercials, photos, scientific films and other film and video material, showing how brands make use of underground culture to give street cred to a pair of sneakers. Fascinating stuff. Art direction by Alexei Tylevich (who later founded Logan.tv), Motion graphics by Sander Alt and Fons Schiedon.

The creative exploration and freedom they allowed me was unlike anything I had ever experienced. Pure trust, pure faith, in my abilities as a story-teller / director and as a friend. In creating this piece, it was profound to realize the success of their company, at its core, is based on a similar model they share with everyone they work with. To feel part of a brand, part of a family, part of an authentic creative expression, truly moved me to my core." - Eliot Rausch Special Thanks to: Steve Van Doren, Classic Hosoi, Ray Barbee, Leila Hurst, Steve Caballero, Keith Morris, Stephen Murray, Mason Murray, Seth Murray, Tony Alva, Curren Caples, Russ Pope, and Christian Hosoi An www.Offthewall.tv Production To read about how this was shot on the Red Epic using Canon Lenses go to http://blog.theimagehunter.com/?p=1488

Over the past 2 years we've been fortunate enough to skate on our skateplaza that was almost a 10 year collaboration between the City of Bethlehem and Homebase Skateshop. This short documentary is meant to show people the positive effects of skateplazas/parks can have in the community if done correctly. As well as how you can support the growing project in Bethlehem. Feel free to share this with your family, friends and local government. If it helps another group of skaters in a need of a legal place to continue doing what they love- then it's all been worthwhile. This documentary was made with only good intentions but not necessarily good audio equipment. Please excuse the audio inconsistencies.
