Kiosk: validator Official Music Video www.thisiscourtneyd.com directed by: courtney d KIOSK R.I.P http://www.myspace.com/kiosk fur-thurr ree-ding or Kiosk 101: Considering that Kiosk are three teenagers from Sydney who freely admit to still being in the process of learning to play their instruments properly, the splash they've made on local scenes is a little disproportionate. Whether it's because some of their members still aren't old enough to legally play over 18's venues or because their shambolic, abrasive, noisy-punk leanings aren't quite the usual on the indie-circuit, Kiosk have garnered more than their fair share or media/critical attention both and good and bad. Not to be deterred Jack, Cat and Angie take it all in their stride. Whether they're being touted as months hipster-darlings or a bunch of snotty kids with trendy hair-cuts has little effect on the band, who enjoy the music process regardless. Drawing inspiration from bands like Huggy Bear, Pussy Galore, Free Kitten, Birthday Party, Bratmobile, Teenage Jesus The Jerks, Beat Happening, The Slits and Lydia Lunch Kiosk play a mix of bratty primitive punk/post-punk, crafted around pounding drums, minimal instrumentation and plenty of shouting. Their live shows are high energy affairs and see the band routinely swapping instruments between songs. They have purveyed their wares numerous times in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, playing proper gigs in venues as well as illegal shows in back-alleys and afternoon, all-ages shows in warehouses and galleries. They've also managed to land themselves some pretty sweet support spots with an array of local and international art-rock, electro-trash, lo-fi, experimental and twee-pop groups think Cobra Killer, Pink Grease, Moving Units, Architecture in Helsinki, Death From Above 1979, The Unicorns, Gerling, Limited Express (has gone?), Wolfmother and Regurgitator. 2005 sees them release their long overdue 7". Entitled 'Growing Pains' the record was recorded in Adelaide and is put out through Melbourne's artschooldropout label home to other aussie notables like Because of Ghosts, Birdblobs and Architecture in Helsinki. Two forthcoming international releases; appearing on a split kill rock stars 7 alongside gang gang dance, glass candy and chromatics, and a record on the coveted k records as recorded by calvin johnson at dub narcotic.
