Singers and songwriters come to Nashville, Tennessee because they consider it the center of the country music universe and the best place to perform their songs as they try and break into the music business. Though few ever experience success in this competitive field, artists continue to arrive in Nashville and many don’t have the commercial potential that would allow them the opportunity to perform anywhere but on the city’s streets. The film, Street Chords and the Truth: A Street Level View of Country Music, focuses on these interesting performers and their music.

'While the Music Lasts' is a short film about music, shot during a road trip through parts of Europe. Special thanks to Meltem Buzkiran, for being a part of it and to all the performers and musicians that we had the chance to come across, whose names we never knew. Streets and metro stations were full of joy, thanks to them. They also inspired this film. Shot and edited by Nurçe Jo Concert footage from The Antlers and Marika Hackman at Café de la Danse, Paris.

Part I can be found at: vimeo.com/35489779 This film reports on Mexico City and asks people there what they know and think about Canada. Just like the city itself, there is a great variety in the views Mexicans hold. If there is one thing they seem to agree on, it is that Canadians are different from Americans and are not gringos. The film portrays different aspects of the city in 14 thematic chapters, each chapter followed by a short interview. Canadians' image of Mexico is shaped by the gringo media, who can see little more than a reflection of their own violence, crime and drug ridden society. The film is split in two parts. Success 2012 Video, sound 19 minutes 49 seconds Even though street musicians are an important part of everyday life, giving a certain face for example to a metropolis or a small town, they can also be a platform to study the evolution of music as one of the most powerful entertainment offers in the world, perceived more as a business or show than an artistic proposal, which has resulted in narrow marketing and massive broadcasting channels which only a few musicians can be part of. The street musicians look for alternatives to share their work and establish a relationship with a possible audience, besides earning money to survive, of course; in European countries some of them compose their own pieces and even reach professional performance skills; they are unemployed musicians, or rather self-employed. These musicians were recorded in the summer of 2012 in Berlin. A project developed with the support of Artist-in-Berlin Program by DAAD. israelm.com
