First of my polygon zither range, this is a five-sided acoustic zither with 8 strings divided by 3 bridges, making 16 pitches. I'm proud with the result; the strings from zither pin to middle bridge sound like other zithers I've built while the strings from middle bridge to anchor have an ethereal, metallic twang sound. Custom zithers are available on request - get in touch over email at edjdevane /at\ gmail /dot\ com and I'll see what I can do.

Rick The Plumber has been playing stringed instruments since 1962. His favorite instrument is the banjo but he also plays the guitar, fiddle and harmonica. By all accounts he doesn't like Southern Comfort.

The Earth Harp is a large-scale, architectural stringed instrument. The Earth Harp can be set up in a multitude of environments, directly incorporating the surrounding architecture and environment. The Earth Harp received its name when it first ran its strings across a valley, 1000 feet, literally turning part of the Earth into a giant harp. The Earth Harp holds the record for the Longest Stringed Instrument in the world with strings that have run over 1,000 ft in length. www.earthharp.com

My new acoustic zither, designed to have 3 adjustable bridges, hence the 3 sound holes, for up to 48 subdivisions of the 12 strings. I have as ever used flat wound electric guitar strings as they cut down on "scratchy" noises. The instrument is played with sticks. I have been using this technique on the 6 string electric zither I made a few years ago, but can only amplify 3 of the 4 sub sections. Made with mahogany and plywood, over the course of about 2 months.

After purchasing our tickets for the gondola ride in The Venetian, Jim and I sat and listened to a great violinist and guitar in the courtyard of The Venetian.
