Megalomania perceives the city in total construction. The built environment is explored as a labyrinth of architecture that is either unfinished, incomplete or broken. Megalomania is a response to the state of infrastructure and capital, evolving the appearance of progress into the sublime. Constructed predominantly using 3d Studio Max and rendered with Vray. Organic movement sequences were originally filmed on a Canon 5D mkII, tracked in PF Track and developed in CG. Demolition created using Rayfire. All compositing done in Adobe After Effects, edited in Adobe Premiere Pro. Audio recorded and coordinated using Adobe Audition. Here are some experiments with the Sigma 4.5mm (and one of my favorite sequences with the Sigma 10-20 slipped into the middle). All the full frame fisheye shots were 'de-vignetted' or 'unwrapped' with flexify 2. With the exception of the first two sequences the rest were captured in HDR (3 to 7 brackets). I prefer the 'enhanced reality' HDR to the 'surreal' effect so you will see a bit of thoughtful clipping at the head and toe of the range. I tried my best to knock down the noise on the first shot but with the warping comes magnification of some regions. Reloaded this one a couple of days later after some slight timing rework and removing my neighbors passing in their pontoon boat in the second sequence. Enjoy and thanks for the kind words! Official Selection - Music Videos, SXSW 2012 "Empyrean" is a music video developed by Ganesh Rao and Jonny Greenwald at the Dept. of Visualization at Texas A&M University under the guidance of Professor Karen Hillier. The objective was to create a visually intriguing cinematic experience, with stunning technicality and conceptual elements. Minimal and symbolic characters and sets were used to vaguely portray themes of 'genesis' with underlying elements of the Hindu mythology. Musically, the piece has ambient and atmospheric soundscapes layered over powerful rhythmic motifs and voices. The piece has a pleasant surreal incline, with enough room left intentionally for subjective interpretation by the audience. http://forbiddencircle.blogspot.com Producer, Director & Music Ganesh Rao Co-producer & Director of Photography Jonny Greenwald

          from Ben Russell / Added

A SPELL follows an unnamed character through three seemingly disparate moments in his life. With little explanation, we join him in the midst of a 15-person collective on a small Estonian island; in isolation in the majestic wilderness of Northern Finland; and during a concert as the singer and guitarist of a black metal band in Norway. Marked by loneliness, ecstatic beauty and an optimism of the darkest sort, A SPELL is a radical proposition for the existence of utopia in the present. Starring artist/musician Robert AA Lowe (best known for his intense live performances under the name LICHENS) in the lead role, A SPELL lies somewhere between fiction and non-fiction - it is at once a document of experience and an experience itself, an inquiry into transcendence that sees the cinema as a site for transformation.

(11:30, 35mm, color, sound, 2007) ...a filmic portrait of secular rapture that harks back to the great annunciation canvases of Titian and Caravaggio.” – Michael Sicinski, Green Cine Daily The third part in a series of films dealing with naturally-derived psychedelia. Shot during a performance by Rhode Island noise band Lightning Bolt, this film documents the transformation of a rock audience’s collective freak-out into a trance ritual of the highest spiritual order.

Beautiful and Sublime the Marmore's Falls /Umbria/Italy a short film by Fabio Palmieri music by Giuseppe Verdi - Messa da Requiem /Lacrymosa Dies Illa The Cascata delle Marmore (Marmore's Falls) is a man-made waterfall created by the ancient Romans. Its total height is 165 m (541 feet), making it the tallest man-made waterfall in the world. The legend tells that a nymph named Black fell in love with a handsome shepherd Velino. But Juno, jealous of this love, transformed the nymph into a river, which took the name of Black. Then Velino, not to lose his beloved, threw himself from the Marmore cliff. This leap, repeated for eternity, is now the Marmore Falls.
